AA is trying hard, ok you can make many milles but what kind of place do they operate? The first service is excellent but the seat and food are from the 80's. Last flight fron NY to LA in an 20 year old plane, I was thinking I really need to stop flying with them: safety? probably ok they are serious people, no personal screen, PC plug out of order, seat 10years old minimum and for the last the food: chicken salad or beef something...glups worst in class... If you want some miles let's go, if you care about your own confort find another airline |

How exactly are they "partners" with BA if a flight on BA does not get mileage credit? Apparently trans-atlantic flights do not count toward your mileage. It's almost 7000 miles that I now have to open a BA FFP for, which is less than ideal.
United Mileage Plus is so much better, so much more flexible and easily gives you credit for every flight on its partner airlines. I think this restriction on AA is bogus. |

I booked a roundtrip flight to Peru for only 35,000 miles in december which is at least 10,000 less than any of the other airlines. I also changed the date of the return flight 2 times with no charge! They only charge for changing the destination city. The ability to book one-way trips for half the miles is also a big plus over the other airline programs. |

The AAdvantage program is consistently rated the best by those who travel most - a testament to its perks for elite members, but also for those just trying to get a single free ticket.
Being a member of the oneworld alliance, AA has partnered with stellar airlines from every continent and provides earning and redemption opportunities on each. Recently, AA made it possible to book one-way awards for half the previous mileage requirements, while maintaining the flexibility to change award flight dates without fees.
A final perk of the program is that every mile earned counts for lifetime status - 1 million miles, Gold level, and 2 million miles, Platinum miles. While other airlines only count flight miles, AA counts miles earned with their partner credit cards and other bonus miles, making it that much easier to get lifetime status. |

American has the best Rewards program for a several reasons. First, they will HOLD an AAdvantage reservation for 5 days (liked it better when they held it for 3 weeks)so you can firm up other plans before ticketing it and 2) they let you change the dates on the same itinerary for FREE. Also you can get a free stop over in a connecting city if you stay less than 24 hours and finally, their rewards cost 5-10K less miles that the others (Delta, United) |

One of the best programmes. Very flexible. Shame their European partners (namely Iberia, Finnair, Malev, and BA) are probably the worst airlines in the Old World. |

Love it! I've tried many others and I keep coming back to AA. Some of AA's customer service agents are dumber than a box of rocks, but I just keep calling back until I get one that's smart. |

So I booked an award ticket for 25 K miles. Then my plans changed and I needed to cancel the first part of the itinerary, and just use the return ticket. Few things to mention:
1. You have to call in to change you itinerary; otherwise if you do not use your first half of the ticket the return flight is automatically canceled.
2. When you change it (even though they can and probably will sell your seat on the pane) you are still using your 25 K miles (which is actually fine with me).
3. You have to pay a $100 fee for the itinerary change, even though you are not changing any flights; you are just canceling a portion of your trip.
I think it’s a rip off that they charge me a fee to cancel a flight on top of what I already paid for the ticket. |

Another great thing about the AA frequent flier program is that they allow you 1 free stopover with a domestic award. For example, if you are flying from LA to Orlando, you can have a stopover in Chicago all for the 25,000 mile tkt. |
