Beware as they like to sell tickets that earn no mileage. Why have a rewards program if you are going to cheat a few of the smart shoppers ( low priced tickets) out of their mileage.

Not quite as lucrative with the miles as say American with all the bonus miles, but their status tiers are excellent - Lounge access for Silvers, Ocassional op-up's from economy a few times on the JFK-HKG flights, and the service is the best in the sky.

Cathay Pacific / Dragonair's Asia Miles programme is possibly the best-in-class within Asia. Instead of limiting redemptions to just air tickets on its flights, oneworld partners or general airline partners (i.e. Jet Airways / Air China / China Eastern), it allows for global redemption of items and tickets. In this aspect, it's much better than United or Delta Air Lines because redemptions for items and tickets are not limited to just the home country (Hong Kong) and can be issued / mailed almost anyone on earth. Besides, the Customer Service is superb, ability to earn points is also good with some cheap fares earning 100% miles (unlike Singapore Airlines). Requirements for miles are relatively low, at least for travel within Asia since Hong Kong - Taipei and some other cities is only 15,000 miles! Elite level benefits could be improved but you get lounge access, priority boarding / check-in etc. at Silver level - you can't get any better than this.

Harder to earn status. Easier to redeem for tickets. Limited partners.

Points expire. Needs a hell of a lot more points to get a reward ticket. For example, to claim a CX Y-class ticket HKG-YYZ requires 90000 Asiamiles but can be redeemed with only 50000 BA miles. What a rip-off! Also, CX flights are very hard to redeem. They simply don't have a lot of reward seats available!!!
