I live in Indianapolis, Indiana and it is absolutely impossible to get anywhere on United, I hate O'hare worse than any other airport. Some flights on United wouldn't get me home leaving the west coast until 1 PM the next day.

I haven't redeemed any miles yet; but I have steadily been given better seats. I am almost at Silver status for 2012. Delta has more direct flights than other airlines coming in or out of Indianapolis (where I am going anyway).

Everyone dogging Delta here should remember USair; they stranded me everywhere and could not give one care about it. Also, Delta points never expire, I travel every week and I already have enough for a trip for two to Hawaii, even at the highest rate.

Delta is rated #1 for technology friendly as well. I actually like them, compared to others I have seen. Happy Travels everyone!

Incredibly poor selection of International awards at mileage levels that are double or more of Continental or United's rewards. Domestic awards
are sometimes ( sometimes) available at low levels but I feel that their mileage program is so poor and redemption levels so high that I feel
they are running a sort of Ponzi mileage scheme. When you get ready to redeem you hard earned miles
the want twice as much and you are stuck till you get to the next plateau where they might pull the same move so that you are mileage rich but can't really go anywhere. Take a good look at this program and compare mileage levels for same destination -same days on UA or CO and you should quickly wake up to the FACT that Delta
can award you with all the useless miles and
useless means useless.

Incredible rip-off when using points for trips in Europe--Delta wants to charge you $200 minimum up-front for the privilege of using your points, when you would normally not pay much more than that to just purchase a ticket. Also, using miles for hotels has basically tripled in price, and I regularly book the same hotels with United points for about 1/3 to 1/4 of the points. As soon as I burn the 200K miles I now have with Delta, I'm finished with these guys.

The unlimited domestic upgrades are simple and the the choice benefits for Platinum and Diamond Medallion members are great as well.

I love the domestic free upgrades.

If you use just the basic skymiles program, it's probably pretty difficult to use rewards. However, I have the gold skymiles card, and it has made my life so much easier! My miles add up quickly, and I'm usually able to get a few free flights every year-sometimes international flights. I really like the "pay with miles" option for gold skymiles members-that way I can get "free" flights for about the same number of miles a reward ticket would use, but it's much more flexible, as you can pay with miles for any flight.

I hate their Atlanta hub (which is always a disaster) and avoid it at all costs, but besides that I've been really happy with Delta the past few years!

While it is pretty easy to earn DL miles, it's certainly not easy to redeem them for international Biz class awards. You need a doctorate in obfuscation to understand most of the rules to book an award ticket at these levels.

Northwest used to be so easy to redeem on. Online, or on the phone, it was always a pleasure. Not so much with DL these days.

As someone who has burned close to 2 million miles since the merger was announced, it can be done, but you must be vigilant, and I recommend reading FlyerTalk.com on ways to redeem your miles at low levels.

I have been a Northwest customer since 1987 and thought their program was exceptional. With the Delta Northwest merger, it was horrible the first year. The bugs seem to be worked out, but the ease of using miles continues to be horrible. I've tried to use miles to Africa, Hawaii and Mexico and have to use Medium or High level points. The low level points are seldom available. The secret is to find a good customer service agent who is patient to help you. The Supervisors are pros and have empathy in the challenges of using Frequent Flyer SkyMiles.

This is a great program once you reach silver an above. If you are an international traveler then and you rack up points in large chunks then delta is beneficial. I have had multiple upgrades to first class with my domestic legs of travel and elite members can choose the premium seats on flight they are not upgraded. three free bags at platinum.i feel the bad is the hubs that Delta has... Been delayed in Atlanta too many times.

Delta makes it easy to earn miles with the exception of partner alliance carriers (for that you'll most likely need to purchase full price fares.) As mentioned on several other comments, rarely do they allow low level award seats anymore, thus requiring more miles to be spent than necessary as compared to other U.S. frequent flier programs.

Nonetheless, I do not want to completely discount the program as I was able to benefit from a few of the perks of being a silver medallion member such as an upgrade for my flight back to LA from DC or free baggage check in for both me and my companion, but quite honestly I was not impress with either amenity.

Ultimately, I would not advise the skymiles program for those who are looking into joining a program and would much rather have them enroll in Continentals or maybe even perhaps Americans program.
