Take a flight with a ticket that is supposed to earn mileage on a partner but never get credited because the partner claims Qantas never sent the mileage over for posting. Qantas randomly decides that the fare is not eligible although the rules say otherwise. Nice service but that is trumped in opinion when you lose that much mileage because they failed to keep their commitment( print the rules) when you get a ticket.

Earning points is easy - the problem is finding a flight to use them on which doesn't leave at 6 a.m. in the morning or travels an awkward, lengthy route. Even booking six or nine months out you'll still find it very hard to get a FF seat on a popular route.

It is not hard to redeem points on Qantas or (some) other airlines, even at fairly short notice, as long as you can be flexible on dates/times, or are prepared to use the more expensive Any Seat Rewards rather than the Classic system, which has a fixed number of points. Upgrading a flight class for points is often an option.

Reasonable program to earn points with guaranteed minimum for short haul, but redeeming rewards is very difficult unless you book a year out.
