This IHG Points Purchase promotion has ended, however, you can still purchase IHG points.

IHG is offering a 100% bonus on points purchased through September 30, 2016.

IHG Points Purchase Promotion

Unlike other similar promotions, you do not need to buy a significant amount of points to trigger the 100% bonus. Rather, any points purchase will trigger said bonus. Please note that it can take up to 48 hours for points purchased to show up in your account.

The minimum amount of points you can purchase is 1,000 points, which would net a 1,000 points bonus, for $13.50. You can buy as many as 60,000 IHG points and generate a bonus of an additional 60,000 points (120,000 points total) for $690.00.  If you purchase the maximum amount of points allowed, you would be paying a rate of just $0.00575 per point.

Do Not Speculatively Purchase Points

As with most similar offers, you should not purchase IHG points unless you have a specific plan for the points you are purchasing, such as topping off an account for a redemption. If you are 6,000 IHG points short of the number of points you need for a specific award. With this promotion, you could acquire those 6,000 points for only $40.50.

Purchase Points to Save Money

Another example of a case in which it makes absolute sense to take advantage of this promotion is when doing so will save you money. Let's say you are planning on a two-night stay at an IHG property priced out at 40,000 points a night and the nightly cash rate for those two nights including taxes is $250. Therefore, you have the option of paying $500 total for those two nights by booking the paid rate or you could instead purchase 40,000 points, which would trigger a bonus of an additional 40,000 points, for only $460. In this example, you would be saving $40 by purchasing the points.

Increasing Your Bonus Without Purchase

As with any opportunity, look at how you'd be redeeming your points to figure out the right course of action. If you're in the market for IHG points, now is a good time to look.
