SPG have just announced an offer for June, where you can get a 35% discount on all Starpoint purchases. The offer runs till the end of June 2017, so there is plenty of time to take advantage of the offer. The offer is relatively straightforward with few terms and conditions.

Key Terms

  • Offer is valid June 1, 2017, through June 30, 2017
  • Purchased points don’t count towards SPG elite status
  • Maximum purchase of 30,000 per year
  • Your SPG account has to be at least 14 days old before you can purchase points
  • Points cost 3.5 cents per point
  • General SPG program terms and condition apply
  • Transactions are final and non-refundable

Buying points with this promotion can yield some great value. Buying the maximum of 30,000 points will set you back 2.275 cents per point which can be an excellent value, and close to many of the valuations of SPG points.

This is a great option for picking up some cheap SPG points, which can be redeemed for some excellent awards, including some unique experiences. Also, you can make your points go further by redeeming them for points and cash stays, which can provide excellent value.

  • AS stated above.I was thinking of combining it with the Mariott transfer option.

  • A nice offer ! Going to take advantage of it! Thanks much!

  • Powder Princess says:

Good to know, if points are needed in a pinch. Plus, extra helpful with the ability to transfer to Marriott, as well.

  • SPG points are great. Current transfer to Marriott is nice. But not worth buying when you can earn them with AMEX SPG. It’s my everyday card when it does not fit into any bonus category (gas&grocery) on other cards. Medical, liquor store, auto parts & repair etc

  • Would this earn 2x points if purchased using a Starwood credit card?

  • I think if you are going to buy points these days you need to have a clear idea of how you are going to use them, and use them quickly. The trend in recent years is very much about points and miles devaluations.

  • Paul Milligan says:

Not certain thats a good price for someone who transfers to airlines, but I guess it works for other folks. Thanks for posting!

  • Rob Arias says:

Great, I’m only worried what will happen with the merger, been a long time coming….

  • Usually only worth buying points if trying to marginally top up to achieve a good value redemption.

  • good deal if you have a definite property in mind

  • Stack this with AA’s ongoing 25% promo for transferring hotel points to get even more mileage (pun intended) out of this deal.

  • Maryjane says:

this would be a great time to top up miles that I am planning to transfer to airlines by taking advantage of the 20000 Starwood points to 250000 airline miles.
    Thanks for posting!

  • Another great offer by SPG. I’m buying the maximum amount to transfer over to Marriott to utilise their packages at best value rate. Buying points is becoming easier than earning in the short term!

  • This worked out well for me. Bought 5000 points with spg card for $123 to transfer to Marriot to redeem for a 15000 point night that was $202.

  • great promo for those that need to top off. Too bad they stopped the B1G1 award stays promo which was a great value with this promo.

  • That doesn’t seem like a good price for someone who transfers to airlines, but I guess it works for other folks. Thanks for posting!

  • I think I’ll take advantage of this promo but would like to take my time.
The only doubt is if they can drop this offer before the end of June

  • Can you transfer SPG points into AA miles?

  • Thanks!!! Going to buy some of them to top up my account for summer vacations! Great value for points!!!

  • JonKarol says:

Thanks for the heads up! I agree that 2.2 cents/point can be a really good value, but I still think I’ll wait until and unless I actually have a redemption to plan.

  • Jacqueline parsons says:

Thanks for posting. Checked my account and the offer is there. Not as good as earlier in the year @ 50% bonus but this one is still great!

  • good to top off accounts for awards or mileage transfers

  • Is 35% off a good amount compared to SPG’s past points purchase promotions?
What was the highest number offered in the past for purchasing starpoints?

  • I never buy airline or hotel points unless I have a need to top off an account for an immediate redemption. Too many devaluations across the board.

  • Is there ever really a value to purchasing miles?? I just never find it really valuable

  • Karen Klein says:

I just heard about this from another website. This is an interesting move for Starwood! Could this be because they are merging with Marriott? I know a lot of people who will be taking advantage of this. However, is it still something big to take advantage of if you can just transfer from Marriott? Is it more to just top off an account? If you have to buy say more than 10K would this be really worth it? Or even more than a couple thousand?

  • SPG points are the best hotel program points. I hope they retain their value going foward and Marriott doesn’t mess up the value.

  • Pretty good possibility for some Marriott redemption here too at 3:1 transfer from SPG. In essence you’d be buying Marriott points for 1/3rd the cost of the SPG point (about 0.76/point). Can definitely find some value there if you look.
