Wildfires are causing massive devastation across the Los Angeles area. American Airlines is partnering with the American Red Cross to support relief efforts. To encourage members to donate, American Airlines is offering 10X AAdvantage miles donated to the Red Cross through January 29, 2025.
Here's how to donate to support wildfire relief efforts and claim your bonus miles.
Earn 10X AAdvantage Miles on Donations to the Red Cross
Through January 29, 2025, members who donate to the Red Cross will get 10 AAdvantage miles for every dollar they donate. To claim the bonus miles, members must donate a minimum of $25. However, there's no upper limit on how much members can donate to receive 10X miles.

On the one hand, this promotion means you're effectively buying AAdvantage miles for 10 cents each. If you're only interested in miles, utilize the current buy American Airlines miles promotion to buy them for a quarter of the price. However, this offer is about supporting the Red Cross wildfire relief efforts and getting a nice reward for doing so.
How to Donate to the Red Cross and Earn AAdvantage Miles
To donate, click this link to visit the Red Cross and add your donation amount. In the payment section, choose credit card or PayPal, and also add your AAdvantage number.
Note that if you want to donate to the Red Cross but not specifically to California Wildfire relief, you can also select “disaster relief,” “where it is needed most,” or “your local Red Cross.” However, it's likely that most of the donations will probably go to California Wildfires at this time.

Note that the smallest donation you can make online is $10. However, to earn 10X AAdvantage miles per dollar donated, you need to donate at least $25. Donations are tax-deductible — less the value of the miles you receive. And the bonus miles you'll earn are not elite status qualifying.
Our Take
If you're keen to help with the wildfire relief efforts, this is an excellent way to do so while also getting a nice reward. Earning 10X miles is a great offer while supporting a vital cause. Just remember that you must donate at least $25 to earn bonus miles and the last day to contribute is January 29, 2025. When making donations with a credit card, make sure to use one of the best cards for everyday purchases.

A pity you don’t get status miles for these donations … that would have made it an even sweeter deal and one I would have jumped on.
Totally agreed. And that’s not unheard of with Alaska offering EQMs for SAF donations (https://awardwallet.com/blog/alaska-elite-miles-sustainable-aviation-fuel/) and JetBlue offering tiles for SAF donations (https://awardwallet.com/blog/jetblue-elite-tiles-saf-contributions/) at the end of 2024.
I am inquiring about the status of the AAdvantage Award credit for the contribution to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Helene I made in October. I made the contribution via the AAdvantage Program portal and received a confirmation from the Red Cross but my account still does not reflect the donation. Please tell me how to direct this inquiry if this is not the proper method. Thank you.

$500 Donation to American Red Cross on 10/18/2024
Hey William. That’s concerning for sure. We checked an archived version of the Red Cross page and didn’t see any terms about when the miles would be deposited. Unfortunately, we can’t help with this. But I’d certainly reach out to AAdvantage support at 800-882-8880
