UPDATE: Alaska and BOA have increased the value of the companion pass offered with the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® Credit Card. For a limited time, new cardholders need to pay just $22 in taxes and fees for the companion pass, saving $99 off the $121 fare typically offered with this card.

One of the best perks offered by the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® Credit Card is the accompanying one-time use Companion Pass. The pass, which is marketed by Alaska as a $121 Companion Pass, can lead to some significant savings when used wisely. After the acquisition of Virgin America by Alaska the companies have continued to integrate their programs and services, from earning and redeeming miles, to now being able to use your Alaska Companion Pass on Virgin America operated flights.

According to the Alaska website, the Companion Pass is provided to holders of the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® Credit Card, both personal and business versions.  The pass is also offered to World Elite and Platinum Plus MasterCard holders in Canada. The Companion Pass is deposited into the cardholder's account on the anniversary of their card membership.

The Companion Pass can prove valuable since its use is straightforward with no strings attached. It is valid for an economy ticket on Alaska or Virgin, and the companion is eligible to earn miles, receive upgrades and most other perks.

Using the Companion Pass is simple, and you can access it from your Alaska Mileage account: when it comes to making a booking, just search on the Alaska site for your desired flights using the Companion Pass as a booking option, and the correct fare options reflecting the value of the pass will be automatically calculated. As Alaska continues to integrate with Virgin America, Alaska’s site will now give you booking options on Virgin America that incorporate the Companion Pass.

This is great news for fans of Virgin America and gives you even more choices when it comes to redeeming your Companion Pass.
