The Bakkt app is shutting down effective March 16, 2023. That means March 15, 2023 is the last day that you'll be able to earn or redeem Choice Privileges points through Bakkt.

The promotion for linking Choice to Bakkt and cashing out your bonus points has been extended through the end of the year, although the rewards have been lowered. Choice Privileges members that haven't already linked their account to Bakkt can get up to 1,250 bonus points for linking accounts and completing qualifying activities by December 31, 2022.

While transferring points to Bakkt isn't the highest-value redemption, it provides a cash-out option for those looking to use up their Choice Privileges points. Or simply link your accounts for the bonus points!

Here's how you can get claim your bonus.

What is Bakkt?

The Bakkt App is a digital wallet. You can make purchases with your cryptocurrencies, and you can also link your other online assets. This includes loyalty and rewards points, airline miles, and gift cards. Bakkt has partnered with several airlines and hotels, including Choice Hotels.

You can transfer your Choice Privileges points into the Bakkt App and convert them into cash or coins, but the conversion rate isn't good. However, the current promotion from Bakkt offers a better return, due to the bonus Choice Privileges points you will get.

If you're planning to sign up for the Bakkt App, make sure you use a non-digital phone number (no Google Voice or similar) and don't use a VPN. Otherwise, you could be blocked from the app.

  • Limited to the first 500,000 participants or ends December 31, 2022 — whichever comes first.

Our Take

This promotion isn't nearly as good as first time Choice and Bakkt teamed up. Where you could previously transfer just 100 Choice Privileges points to Bakkt, now you'll have to transfer $12.50 worth of points (4,000 points) to get only 1,250 bonus points (which was 2,000 bonus points until the end of November). Also, you might not see your bonus points for over a month (4-6 weeks in the terms and conditions).

However, free is free. If you have points stranded in Choice Privileges that aren't worth enough for a free night, and you are looking for a way to use them up, this could be it. For 4,000 points, you'll get another 1,250 added on. That's a 32% bonus.

Is 1,250 bonus points enough for you to sign up for Bakkt?
