Is It Worth It?
Purchasing the maximum amount of points, 40,000, will give you a total of 80,000 points for $280.
If you check out the Club Carlson award chart, award nights in standard rooms range from 9,000 points (category 1 property) to 70,000 points (category 7 property).
If you are a road warrior and stay at inexpensive airport hotels, 80,000 points could give you 8 nights in a category 1 property for $280; which works out at $35 per night. For example, The Country Inn & Suites By Carlson at Cincinnati Airport would set you back 9,000 points a night. A cash booking at the same hotel would set you back $71. Paying 9,000 points a night represents a discount of just over 50%. Sure, it isn't luxurious, but $35 for a hotel room is nothing to throw your nose at.
When it comes to high-end redemptions, you'll want to look international. Club Carlson only has 5 category 7 hotels in North America. Europe, on the other hand, is a whole different ballgame.
For example, a night in The Mayfair, London would set you back 70,000 points or $484 in cash. Paying with your purchased points would represent a saving of over $200 or a discount of 42.2%!
Maximizing The Offer
Club Carlson uses Points.com to process their purchases, so there is no category bonus to be had with any cards. Your best option here is to use one of the cards which maximize returns on everyday spending. Options available to you include:
Our Take
Club Carlson has a relatively small footprint in the US of high-end properties, but there are some deals to be had if you don't need five-star accommodations. With a rake of 80,000 points for $280, you'll need to run the numbers — but we think there are definitely some options where purchasing points here makes sense.

Oha! Didnt know the Deal was THAT good – the May Fair is on my List!
In my experience the May Fair is just a nice hotel in the perfect location for their target market, but doesn’t cater at all to Club Carlson members using points. (i.e. worst room, etc.)
There are better options in London IMO.
As it should be! We’ve very much enjoyed our award stays at the May Fair on our two most recent week-long trips to London.
I can also say, contrary to Craig’s experience, we definitely did not receive the worst room in the hotel. ON our first stay, we had an absolutley massive room, practically a studio-suite, and most recently, we were assigned what I presume is a ‘normal sized’ room, but with a nice view of Hyde Park. Like most things, YMMV.
buying some now
Can this be combined with any other promotion?
No.
Just what I needed 😀
I have bought 39000(+39000) points.
I had previously bought 1000 points just to keep alive the points.
Seems like a pretty good deal to me!
Never buy points unless you have an immediate use for them since they can be devalued at anytime.
nice deal if you can find a property that works for you
I really don’t like buying points but I can see how this could definitely save money if you were planning a road trip and needed to spend the night in multiple small towns. As always, a good deal for the right situation but not a good idea to buy and hoard these points.
I almost jumped on this, then I realized I have 250k Club Carlson points that I still need to figure out how I’m going to use! 🙁
I found some high end rooms that utilising this promo saved a lot of money, thanks for posting.
Thank you!
There are too few properties for me in the CC program but this is a good deal for others.
That was a great deal, thanks!!
Nice but missed it!
