How To Transfer Amex Membership Rewards to Your Flying Blue Account

Transferring your American Express Membership Rewards to an Amex partner is about as easy as it gets. The first step in transferring points to your Flying Blue account is to ensure you've linked your Flying Blue and Membership Rewards accounts. You can do this by logging in to your American Express account, selecting “Rewards”, and then navigating to American Express' list of transfer partners.

Once you've arrived on this page, you will see both programs that are already connected to your account and all other eligible transfer partners. If you see Flying Blue listed under “Your Programs”, you can begin transferring points to your account. If you have not yet linked your accounts, click the Flying Blue logo to begin the short process. Once you've successfully linked your accounts, you can begin transferring Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue.

You can transfer as few as 1,000 Membership Rewards points or as many as 999,999 points.

Flying Blue Transfer Bonus History

In the past, American Express has offered (at least) four transfer bonuses to Flying Blue:

  • 25% transfer bonus through 6/15/2018
  • 25% transfer bonus through 4/29/2019
  • 25% transfer bonus through 11/30/2019
  • 30% transfer bonus through 8/15/2021 — offered by Flying Blue directly

Through the middle of August 2021, Flying Blue directly offered a 30% transfer bonus when members transferred points from American Express to Flying Blue. So, the 25% transfer bonus currently being offered is a return to the “typical” transfer bonus that we see between Membership Rewards and Flying Blue.

Best Ways to Redeem Flying Blue Miles

Flying Blue is the official frequent flyer program of Air France, KLM, Kenya Airways, Tarom, Air Calin, and Transavia. Not only can you use Flying Blue miles for travel on these airlines but Flying Blue miles can be used for travel on any airline that is a member of the SkyTeam alliance. This includes airlines like Delta, Aeromexico, China Airlines, and Korean Air Lines.

Here are some of the best uses of Flying Blue miles:

US to Europe in Business Class from 53k Miles One-way

You can fly from New York's JFK airport to London as few as 53,000 Flying Blue miles one-way in business class. During the transfer bonus, you only need to transfer 43k Membership Rewards points to book such an award!

However, due to Flying Blue's dynamic award pricing, you often need to pay more miles to fly to Europe. Still, you can book this nonstop business class award from New York to Paris for 60k transferred Membership Rewards points:

US to Asia in Business Class from 85k Miles One-way

Flying Blue is also a great way to book cheap awards to Asia. For example, you can book business class awards to Seoul for as few as 85,000 miles each way:

Again though, it can be hard to find awards that cheap. But, you can book this 115,000-mile award for just 92k transferred Membership Rewards points during the transfer bonus:

US to North Africa in Business Class from 53k Miles One-way

Per Flying Blue's Miles Price Estimator, you can book award flights from New York JFK to Casablanca for as few as 53,000 Flying Blue miles each way. If you can find availability at that price, you'd need just 43k Membership Rewards points during this transfer bonus.

There are a number of other ways to use Flying Blue miles. Many of these redemptions are available through Flying Blue's website. However, I recommend calling Flying Blue's customer service line should you be interested in an itinerary that's not appearing on the website. There are numerous bookings that can only be made over the phone.

Bottom Line

While international travel is still quite difficult as a result of increased cases thanks to the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus, now's the time to start planning for next spring and summer. This transfer bonus is a great way to top off your Flying Blue account. You will now receive 25% bonus Flying Blue miles when you transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards.

With this 25% bonus, you'll be able to fly in business class between the U.S. and Europe for just 43k Membership Rewards points. If you're hoping to take advantage of this promotion, be sure to act fast as we're not sure as to when this promo is set to end.

  • Why is it that all of these things seem to be for Amex and not Chase?

  • I am planning for next summer already. I am hesitant about booking anything though. I am sure a lot ppl feel that way. I wonder if we will see several of these bonuses from Amex and maybe chase to bring down the total of points ppl have with them?

  • Is this limited only to U.S. cards or extended to another countries?

    • We haven’t been able to find a terms and conditions page for this promotion, so we can’t know for sure. I’d recommend checking the Flying Blue website for your country to see if this promotion is being advertised.

  • I could not SEE immediately when this expires!!!!! Please PUT expiry dates on the first line at the top so it is easily logged from an email account!!!

    • When a promotion has a known end date, we always include it in the intro. In this case, the end date isn’t disclosed by Flying Blue.

  • I couldn’t work out whether this applies to only Amex US cards?

    • It seems to be only limited to Amex US cards. But, since Flying Blue doesn’t have a landing page for this promotion, we can’t be sure.

  • I think that this is one of the best uses of my Amex points

  • I have been accumulating TYP in Citi’s eco system. Why is it so RARE to see that Citi offers this kind of bonus transfer promotion ??

  • Would love to see a chase promo for flying blue transfers!

  • The new AF business class looks fantastic; I would love to try it out.

  • This looks like one of the best promo for FB. I’ve used the 25% one in the past and combined with the monthly FB reduced mileage promo, it was a fantastic deal, around 32000 MR points for a business class from North America to Europe.

  • I wish there were more credit cards transfer offers to Flying Blue program, especially for EU customers.

  • Maximiliano says:

Hello, this offer is valid for AMEX cards issued in Argentina?

    • JT Genter says:

Good question. It does not seem to be valid for cardholders in Argentina – as the promotion doesn’t show on Flying Blue’s website when I switch the country to Argentina.

  • For the business class product it is admittedly not a bad deal.

  • Fenspinbi says:

Yes, and this was my first flexible points transfer redemption, for biz on AF next May. Transferred 41000 MR points with the bonus and paid $271 out of pocket on my Amex Platinum, for a net of only 39645 MR points for the one-way (-41000 points spent + 1345 points earned). Thanks for the heads up!

  • Is this targeted? I checked 3 MR accounts and no 30% transfer bonus for Flying Blue.
