National has announced a promotion offering American Express card members Emerald Club Executive status when signing up with Emerald Club by January 31, 2019. The promotion is only open to new National Emerald Club members, and Executive status is valid through February 28, 2020.
Key Terms
- Enroll in National Emerald Club by January 31, 2019
- Rent one time (minimum of a mid-sized car) by January 31, 2019, and receive six credits to use for a future rental (enough for a free one-day rental)
- Pay for your rental with any American Express card
- Promotion is only open to new National Emerald Club members
- To maintain your status past February 20, 2020, you need to complete 12–24 rentals or 40–84 rental days during 2019.
- Allow 24-72 hours after the rental for the credits to post to your account.
Our Take
This is the perfect kind of promotion. You earn immediate status and a free rental day after you complete a single rental. Executive status holders can choose any car from the Executive area, our favorite rental car perk.
If you do take advantage of the deal, remember you can earn a significant number of Emerald Club bonus points with the One Two Free promotion that runs through February 28, 2019.

Thanks for the information, ill have to see if a Canadian AMEX will work for this promotion or not. Its a lot of rentals to keep this status going forward.
will this work if I open a second acct at National?
fraud isn’t something you should look at doing.
poor taste to cheat the system…
Going to be hard to maintain status but for over a year membership worth the signup.
Good with any AMEX?
Individual cards aren’t listed, so it appears to be the case according to the terms.
Does this work for AMEX card issued in any country?
We don’t have Amex cards issued outside of the US so we can’t tell you one way or the other.
Nice one! I’ve been meaning to get into rental car programs. I’ll register as soon as my new Austrian driver’s licence comes through.
Just enrolled, thanks for the post!
I’m happy with Hertz Platinum. I like the pick up and drop off at the airport.
I just so happen to need a car soon, and am not a National member. I’ll be doing this. Thanks.
Congrats on ur good timing! I would suggest that’s one of the rewards for following a quality loyalty program blog like this. If you can find a sensible way to follow the promo onslaught, like reading here, you will get lucky with your timing like this on more than one occasion going forward.
I thought I had this with CSR but I guess it’s a level down?
You do get this with CSR — just not the 6 free credits.
New accounts only for the offer, and thereby the 6 credits, so those of us that already have registered for status through the CSR cannot participate… or would need to recruit a family member, or (heaven forbid) open a duplicate account.
Sounds poor to me – too many rentals required to maintain the status.
I’ll stick with PC on Hertz 🙂
Free status through 2020 to try out a new product? I have both Hertz PC and National Executive status — I’d really suggest you take a look. National wins hands down.
