Credit card signup bonuses are a great way to pick up extra miles. However, while most cards offer signup bonuses on a regular basis, the best bonuses tend to come and go. The AAdvantage co-branded cards with Citi are now offering up to 50,000 bonus miles on the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ MasterCard® and the CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World MasterCard®. The last time this offer came around was in February 2016. With a 50,000-mile bonus, these cards are worth having a look at.

The Deal

Each card comes with 50,000 bonus miles when you spend $3,000 in the first three months of card membership. Both cards are similar; the primary differentiator being one is a personal card and the other a business card. Both cards have an annual fee of $95 which is waived for the first year. The perks and benefits of each card are below:

Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ MasterCard® benefits:

  • 10% rebate on redeemed AAdvantage miles, up to an annual limit of 10,000 per year
  • 25% discount on in-flight food and beverage purchases on AA, when using your card
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees on purchases
  • Group 5 Boarding on American Airlines flights
  • Earn 2X AAdvantage miles on eligible purchases from American Airlines
  • Your first checked bag is free on American Airlines domestic routes; this applies to you and up to four companions traveling on the same booking.

CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World MasterCard® benefits:

  • Earn 2X AAdvantage miles on eligible purchases from American Airlines
  • Group 5 Boarding on American Airlines flights
  • Your first checked bag is free on domestic American Airlines flights; this applies to you and up to four companions traveling on the same booking
  • 1X AAdvantage mile per dollar spent on other purchases
  • 2X AAdvantage miles for every dollar spent on telecommunications, gas stations, and car rentals.

The best card for you depends on your situation and what you're looking to get. The good news is, getting one card doesn't preclude you from getting the other.

Final Thoughts

Whether you look at picking up either of these card products or not depends on your spending and travel patterns. For example, there are other cards out there with additional travel perks such as The Platinum Card® from American Express. However, if you are a regular flyer with AA, or are looking to bolster your AAdvantage balance, then it might be a good idea to pick up one of these cards.
