Chase has released a limited-time 100,000 point signup bonus on the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card, an increase of 25,000 points over the standard offer which typically sits at 75,000 points. The last time we saw a 100,000 point offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Card was back in May 2019, following the rebranding of this card from Marriott Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy.

The Marriott Bonvoy Card provides plenty of benefits in addition to the raised signup offer, including an annual free-night certificate and complimentary elite-status perks. These benefits can more than account for the out-of-pocket expense of carrying the card and make it worth holding onto over the long term.

Anytime a signup bonus increases into 100K+ point territory, we think it’s worth evaluating your application strategy to see how it might fit into your rewards portfolio.

Marriott Bonvoy Card Welcome Offer & Feature Benefits

New applicants for the Marriott Bonvoy Card can earn a limited-time signup bonus of 100,000 points after spending $5,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening. Putting that into context for folks who have transitioned from SPG, the bonus is equal to 33,333 SPG points—close to the all-time-high welcome offers on the SPG co-brand cards.

In addition to the limited-time welcome offer, the card offers the following benefits:

Marriott Bonvoy Card Key Benefits

  • 6x points at Marriott Bonvoy properties and 2x on all other purchases
  • Anniversary free night certificate for hotels valued up to 35,000 points
  • Complimentary Silver Elite Status and a Path to Gold Elite Status after you spend $35K in a calendar year
  • 15x Elite Night Credits towards your next elite tier (capped at 15 nights across all Marriott co-brand cards)
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Access to Chase Offers through the Chase mobile app
  • $95 annual fee

The most valuable benefit of the Marriott Bonvoy Card is the anniversary free night certificate. The free night is good at Marriott properties up to the value of 35,000 points per night, and it doesn’t take much work to redeem the certificate for a value well above the cost of the annual fee.

It’s important to note that Marriott recently introduced peak- and off-peak award pricing across its entire portfolio, which can have a significant effect on how you redeem your free night certificate. Standard award pricing for Category 5 properties sits at 35,000 points per night. But, peak pricing for Category 5 properties bumps up the award price to 40,000 points, placing them out of reach when trying to redeem your free night certificate with its 35,000 point cap.

The saving grace for the free night is that Marriott’s global footprint is enormous! Even if you are loyal to other brands, having this card in your wallet (and the free night attached) is a great fall-back strategy if your favorite hotel chain has no presence or award availability.

Application Restrictions

The application restrictions for the Marriott Bonvoy Card are a complicated maze of rules and restrictions designed to confuse even the most seasoned points and miles fans. This includes Marriott specific application rules that layer on top of Chase’s already restrictive 5/24 policy.

The Marriott Bonvoy Card is subject to 5/24, so if you have opened 5 or more new personal credit card accounts in the previous 24 months, you won’t be approved for this card. You can get familiar with Chase’s application policy in our comprehensive 5/24 guide.

On top of the Chase specific rules, Marriott co-brand cards are subject to a complicated set of restrictions which change depending on the cards you already hold, have opened in the recent past, or, received a welcome offer on in the previous 24 months. For a full breakdown of the application rules, check out our dedicated post covering Marriott’s application restrictions.

Our Take

The limited-time 100,000 point offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Card comes within a few thousand points of the all-time-high offers on the SPG cards of old. If you were to transfer 60,000 points to one of Marriott’s 40+ airline partners, you could net 25,000 miles, with a further 40,000 Marriott points left in your account to help cover your accommodation. You can learn more about the card and ongoing benefits in our Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card review.
