This Alaska Miles Purchase promotion has ended, however, you can still purchase Alaska miles.

Alaska Airlines has announced a promotion where you can receive up to a 50% bonus on miles purchases through October 4, 2018. This promotion is being marketed as a “Mystery Bonus,” so you will have to log into your account to see exactly what you are offered. However, many people are reporting a bonus of up to 50%. This is one of the more generous promotions from Alaska, with recent promotions earning a 40% bonus.

Key Terms

  • The bonus is valid on purchases through October 4, 2018
  • You can purchase up to 60,000 miles per transaction
  • There is no limit on the number of miles you can purchase or transactions you can complete.

If you maximize the promotion and purchase 60,000 miles, you will receive a total of 90,000 miles for $1,773.75. This works out at 1.97 cents apiece, which is pretty good value.

Remember that unfortunately Alaska miles purchases are processed by points.com, so there is no scope to earn any credit card rewards for bonus category spending. If you do decide to go ahead with the purchase, it is best to use one of the various credit cards optimized for everyday spending.

Our Take

Alaska remains our favorite frequent flyer program and has some great redemption options and sweet spots. Purchasing miles with a 50% bonus can make a lot of sense if you have a specific redemption in mind. Fortunately, you have quite some time to take advantage of this promotion, so you can work out how to best take advantage of it with your future travel plans.
