Marriott Gold and Platinum Status Challengeby Sam Helmy
Marriott has announced a status match challenge; very similar to the Starwood status challenge from last year. This time around the match requires 8 or 16 stays, which is lower than the 9 or 18 stays needed for the SPG challenge. Unfortunately, there is no link to the offer, and you will have to call up to register.

Marriott may be a touch confused as to when Marriott Rewards and SPG will be rolled into a single loyalty program, but for all intents and purposes, any day from August 1, 2018, we can expect to see Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards, and Starwood Preferred Guest combined into a single entity. Last Chance to Buy SPG Points up to 35% Off?by Sam Helmy
We don’t know it for sure, but given the August 1, 2018 elimination of the SPG program, now is probably your last chance to buy Starpoints with a discount of 35%, before the program merges with Marriott and Starpoints are converted into Marriott Rewards (or whatever the new program will be named).
STRONG RUMOR: SPG Card Welcome Bonus Devaluation Imminentby Howie Rappaport
We expected more notice about a significant change with the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, but strongly sourced rumors from Doctor of Credit indicate the long-standing 25,000-point welcome bonus is about to be decimated, and replaced with a small cash welcome bonus.

It’s been a long time coming, but Marriott has finally announced the key features of the combined Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards, and Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty programs that will launch August 1, 2018.
Starwood & Marriott Summer Promotionsby Sam Helmy
Starwood Preferred Guest and Marriott Rewards have both announced their summer promos. Not surprisingly for two programs who are going to merge into one in the near future, the promos are identical including for the number of points earned—which takes into account the transfer ratio (1:3) between both programs.
