We recently reported that Marriott Platinum Premier officially receives United Premier Gold Elite Status. Taking things a step further, United has added an enhanced benefit for its invitation-only level, Global Services, whereby members now receive complimentary Marriott Platinum status. This team-up between United and Marriott’s invite-only Elite status serves to strengthen the link between both programs further.
Where the Partnership Stands
With so many tiers in each program, it can be a confusing to understand to which level you will match. The tiers are as follows:
- Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite receive United MileagePlus Silver Elite
- Marriott Rewards Premier Platinum Elite receive United MileagePlus Gold Elite
- United Premier Gold, Platinum, and 1K Elites will receive Marriott Rewards Gold
- United Global Services will receive Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite
The enhanced benefits for invitation-only elite levels fall under the umbrella of the MRewardsPlus program which launched in 2014.
Marriott Platinum Benefits
Marriott Platinum Elite is one of the more challenging levels of elite status to achieve in the hotel industry with 75 nights required, although, when it comes to perks it is not much different compared to Marriott Rewards Gold.
The key differences between Gold and Platinum status are that Platinum Elites earn a bigger bonus on stay (50% vs. 25%), and they are offered 48-hour room guaranteed room availability, as well as an arrival gift. When it comes to some important perks such as lounge access, complimentary upgrades, late checkout and complimentary breakfast, both Marriott Platinum and Gold receive them.
Summary
This is great news for United Global Services Elites, although the benefits of Marriott Platinum are not outstanding when compared to Marriott Rewards Gold. On the other hand, with 48 guaranteed room availability, which is perfect for last minute business travel, and late checkout, as well as some beautiful properties around the US this new link is great news for United Global Services members. Overall it does seem that United Global Services are getting the better deal, since they cross over to Marriott’s top-tier elite status, while Marriott Premier Elites only cross over to Mileage Plus Silver.

Thank you so much.
Sorry. I do not have a link. I spoke with two mileage plus agents yesterday and learned the Marriot platinum status is no longer offered after 11/15/2017. I am confused as well.
Let’s see what I can get from them. I’ll update if I hear anything.
Just learned UA GS only gets Marriot gold status starting 2018
HC, do you have a link/reference to share?
this is a nice benefit from United. It seems they are improving while AA is getting worse.
I also think this pretty impressive, any additional ways to status upgrade from any card or partner is a true benefit.
United is, in my opinion, the worst major US carrier. These kinds of offers and benefits that only apply to the ultra elite and super rich will do nothing to improve their standing with regular frequent flyers like myself.
I am curious if there are any United Global Service members who read this blog. How many miles do you fly a year to get this invitation only status?
No set requirement, here’s a sheet of DPs

Wow this is actually pretty impressive.
Now if only Marriott plats would get UA gold instead of silver…:)
Haha yes that would be very welcome!
