Let's take a look at the details.

Hyatt's Mr and Mrs Smith Promotion

When a hotel releases a promotion for purchasing gift cards, you'd probably expect it to be for those within its own chain. However, Hyatt has pulled a fast one on us by offering both tier night credits and Hyatt points for purchases with — wait for it — Mr and Mrs Smith hotels.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Mr and Mrs Smith, it's a collection of high-end boutique hotels that previously had a partnership with IHG One Rewards. However, Hyatt acquired the platform in June 2023. We've been waiting ever since for these properties to join World of Hyatt as the replacement for Hyatt's soon-ending partnership with Small Luxury Hotels.

Credit: Mr and Mrs Smith</enter>

While we wait for Mr and Mrs Smith properties to start participating in World of Hyatt, Hyatt is offering a fairly compelling promotion, especially for those who need to earn more Hyatt nights for their desired elite status tier:

Earn 5x World of Hyatt points per $1 spent on all Mr and Mrs Smith gift card purchases.

Valid now through March 31, 2024.

Earn one Hyatt elite night credit for every $300 spent on gift cards.

Maximum of 60 night credits awarded through this promotion.

There are a couple of things to note here. While you will earn 5x Hyatt points per $1 spent and one elite night credit for every $300, that's the limit for benefits you'll receive with your stays. That is to say, you won't be getting additional Hyatt points or elite night credits when using these gift cards, even if the property you're staying at is fully integrated into the World of Hyatt program by the time you check in. And properties that aren't integrated into World of Hyatt when you visit aren't obligated to recognize your status, meaning no room upgrades or complimentary perks.

Related: Do World of Hyatt Points Expire?

Is It Worth It?

This promotion maxes out at 60 elite night credits, which would require purchasing $18,000 worth of gift cards. That sounds exorbitant (and it is), but think about it this way: It can be used to earn Hyatt elite status in 2025, given that we're in the 2024 qualification year. Plus, you'll also earn points on the purchases — both from World of Hyatt and on your credit card spending.

Maxing out the promotion would earn you Hyatt Globalist elite status, which is arguably the most valuable elite status around. That makes a pretty compelling argument. You'd also qualify for other Hyatt Milestone Rewards along the way.

However, $18,000 is a lot for anyone to stomach, even if it does net you hotel stays, elite night credits, and Hyatt points. If you intend to earn elite status with Hyatt, there are certainly cheaper ways of doing so (such as cheap hotel stays).

Related: How To Get Hotel Elite Status for Free (or Almost Free)

The Bottom Line

Hyatt has an intriguing promotion for customers to purchase hotel gift cards and earn points plus elite night credits concurrently. If fully maxed out, this would allow guests to earn top-tier Hyatt elite status, which can be pretty compelling. However, there are cheaper ways to earn status, so this promotion may be a better fit for those looking to top off their elite night credits this year.

Page Contents

Hyatt's Mr and Mrs Smith Promotion

Is It Worth It?

The Bottom Line

It’s not uncommon to see promotions from different hotel chains, and sometimes the offers can be quite unique.
