With the addition of the Rio Hotel & Casino to the World of Hyatt<\/a> portfolio, there's now another property in Las Vegas you can book with Hyatt points. Plus, Hyatt is investing heavily in the property, hoping to transition the Rio into its Destination brand by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Here's the lowdown on World of Hyatt's newest property addition.<\/p>\n

World of Hyatt Adds the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas<\/span><\/h2>\n

Going forward, the Rio Hotel & Casino has become a fully-fledged World of Hyatt member<\/a>. And while the addition won't compensate for all that was lost in the now-defunct MGM partnership<\/a>, it's still a net positive \u2014 especially for those who want to continue using Hyatt points for cost-effective stays in Vegas.<\/p>\n

However, when you try to book a night, you'll likely see a giant “renovation notice” banner affixed to the property. According to the press release announcing the new addition, Hyatt has big plans for the Rio. However, until phase one renovations finish later this year, you might have to pardon some dust and live with the swimming pool not being open.<\/p>\n

An easy way to enjoy the already-renovated spaces is to book with World of Hyatt points. On award redemptions, Hyatt will only give you choices of renovated rooms. As a Category 3 hotel, free nights run between 9,000 and 15,000 points per night. Even better, the Rio Hotel & Casino's daily $40 resort is waived on award bookings (or waived on any stays for Globalist members<\/a>).<\/p>\n

But if you opt to pay with cash instead of points, you'll have a choice between renovated and un-renovated rooms. Generally, renovated rooms cost about $30 more per night than their non-renovated counterparts. But again, you'll also have to pay the daily resort fee. And while room rates are reasonable (starting around $60 per night), the fees can easily make a cheap stay much more expensive.<\/p>\n

Down the road, Hyatt plans to transition the Rio Hotel & Casino into a Destination by Hyatt property. We should know more in the coming months, but the tentative plan is for this conversion to happen in the fall.<\/p>\n
