These nifty credits allow you to upgrade to a higher class of service on an Air Canada flight. In some changes announced today, Air Canada is adjusting the expiry on eUpgrade certificates, adding a benefit for premium Aeroplan cardholders, and kicking off a one-time rollover.

Here's what Aeroplan elites need to know about the changes to eUpgrade credits.

Aeroplan Adjustments to eUpgrades

Earning Aeroplan elite status is the key to earning eUpgrades. You can achieve elite status by crediting flights to the Aeroplan program, earning 100,000 Aeroplan points in a calendar year through the program's “Everyday Status Qualification,” or picking up the Aeroplan® Credit Card.

And after you earn any tier of elite status, you'll collect 20 eUpgrades. You can rack up additional credits from eligible Flight Pass activity, choosing them through Select Benefits, and earning Threshold Rewards.

Traditionally, eUpgrades carried an expiry date that depended on when you earned them. But to alleviate confusion, Air Canada has changed the validity of eUpgrades. From July 1, 2024, eUpgrades are valid for 12 months from the date they were earned. The validity of eUpgrades you earn before July 1 won't change.

Air Canada's business class.
