Virgin Atlantic just nerfed one of the best sweet spots in award travel. From that line alone, there's a great chance you know exactly what we're talking about; that's just how good this specific award chart carve-out was. And for most, this news might not come as a surprise.<\/p>\n

The all-in cost to fly to and from Europe and the U.K. in lie-flat Delta business class using Virgin points is now immensely higher than it was yesterday. As uncovered by Thrifty Traveler<\/a>, it's Virgin Atlantic Flying Club<\/a>‘s latest negative change. Here's what you need to know.<\/p>\n

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Devalues Delta One Awards to Europe<\/span><\/h2>\n

There were few better ways to get across the Atlantic than flying Delta One business class for 50,000 Virgin points. No matter where in the U.S. you depart from, that's all you'd pay. Virgin points are also easy to earn, so this redemption truly was the textbook definition of a sweet spot.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. Virgin Atlantic took a couple of hacks at its Delta partner chart \u2014 specifically for business class flights to Europe and the United Kingdom. But this devaluation is different from most. Here's why.<\/p>\n

Flying Club introduced peak and off-peak pricing to Delta awards to Europe. Business class awards now require up to 55% more points depending on the time of year you fly.<\/p>\n

In addition, Virgin Atlantic is making the tax and fee component on Europe-bound business class awards more than 180 times more expensive \u2014 hiking $5.60 to $1,027.80 or more. You'll notice that Virgin Atlantic has made some Delta One awards cheaper points-wise (East Cost to Europe on an off-peak date). But the tax and fee component easily negates the points savings. And at that, changes are effective as of today, July 2, 2024, so you'll see the updated pricing the next time you stumble across a bookable Delta award.<\/p>\n
