Short economy awards only increased by a little over 1,000 points, but first class long-haul awards took a big hit. Those flights are now up to 40,000 points more expensive.<\/p>\n<p>Still, redeeming Qantas points for American flights can still be cost-effective. That's because, unlike many other airlines mentioned, Qantas considers only the total distance flown, as opposed to the distance of each segment, to determine award cost. In the below award chart, notice that award prices start out fairly modest at just 9,200 points.
