Most U.S. airline co-branded credit cards offer a free checked bag for the primary cardholder. The FRONTIER Airlines World Mastercard\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> was an exception \u2014 until this week. Effective August 15, 2024, those with the Frontier Airlines Mastercard can check two bags for free. This means potential savings of over $100 per flight.<\/p>\n

Here's what you need to know about the new benefit attached to the Frontier Airlines Mastercard.<\/p>\n

Frontier Adds Free Bag Benefits to the Frontier Airlines Mastercard<\/span><\/h2>\n

A major benefit of airline credit cards<\/a> is free checked luggage. This perk alone can justify the annual fee these cards charge \u2014 sometimes several times over. And until now, the Frontier Airlines Mastercard<\/a> was one of the few airline co-branded credit cards open to U.S. applicants that didn't offer any complimentary luggage for cardholders. Now, it offers two free checked bags.<\/p>\n

The new benefit applies to flights booked directly with Frontier Airlines or on the Frontier Airlines mobile app. Golf and ski equipment count as luggage that you can check for free. However, fees will still apply to overweight bags.<\/p>\n

In announcing the new benefit, Bobby Schroeter, chief commercial officer at Frontier Airlines, said the following:<\/p>\n

“Our cardmembers spoke, and we listened. With the introduction of free checked bags, we\u2019re elevating the travel experience for FRONTIER Airlines World Mastercard\u00ae<\/sup> cardmembers. This new benefit, combined with existing perks like Instant Elite Gold Status and miles that never expire, makes our card a must-have for any traveler looking to maximize value and convenience on every flight.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Why Frontier\u2019s New Checked Bag Benefit Is a Big Deal<\/span><\/h2>\n

Frontier Airlines baggage fees are dynamic, but regularly exceed $50 per bag. You should be able to recoup the $99 annual fee in a single trip.<\/p>\n

Outside of this perk, you can only check a bag for free if you book a “Business Bundle” fare or have Platinum or Diamond Elite status. Business fares and Diamond status grant you two free bags, while Platinum status affords you one.<\/p>\n

What's different about the Frontier Airlines free bags benefit is that it only applies to the primary cardholder but not additional passengers<\/strong>. On other airlines, co-branded cards offer a complimentary checked bag for up to nine passengers traveling on the same reservation. While still valuable, Frontier's free checked bag perk only applies to the primary cardholder.<\/p>\n

If you fly Frontier but don't already have the Frontier Airlines Mastercard<\/a>, now is a great time to apply. Each time you fly the low-cost airline, you'll get to check two bags free of charge. You can potentially recoup the second-year $99 annual fee on a single trip.<\/p>\n

Frontier continues to come out with more benefits and offers. The Frontier Airlines Mastercard already offers several benefits, and new cardholders get Elite Gold status for 90 days.
