If you make $100 in food and drink purchases annually, you can save $20. This is a decent savings for a card with no annual fee, making it a good companion for the periodic Delta flyer.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"No_foreign_transaction_fees\">No foreign transaction fees<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Most no-annual-fee cards have one key drawback that really stings when traveling abroad: foreign transaction fees. These can be expensive and add a substantial amount to the cost of your overseas purchases. The Blue Delta Amex charges no foreign transaction fees (<a data-ccid=\"4028092\" href=\"https:\/\/www.americanexpress.com\/us\/credit-cards\/card-application\/apply\/prospect\/terms\/delta-skymiles-blue-american-express-card\/26129-10-0#offer-terms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rates & Fees<\/a>). Unfortunately, the Blue Delta Amex only offers higher rates at restaurants worldwide, takeout and delivery in the U.S., and purchases made directly with Delta.<\/p>\n<p>Everywhere else, you will only earn 1X mile per $1 spent. If you're considering the entry-level Delta card, you are probably not accruing hundreds of thousands of Delta SkyMiles per year. So, your best choice for redeeming Delta SkyMiles could be on short-haul domestic awards that only cost a few thousand miles.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/airlines\/delta-skymiles\/how-many-delta-miles-for-a-flight\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Delta stopped publishing an award chart<\/a> several years back. Now, Delta uses <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/travel\/what-is-dynamic-pricing\/\" rel=\"noopener\">dynamic award pricing<\/a> where mileage pricing generally varies with cash prices. Flights within North America (including the U.S. & Canada) can cost as few as 3,000 miles at the lowest for one-way economy awards. Even though <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/airlines\/delta-skymiles\/do-delta-miles-expire\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Delta SkyMiles don\u2019t expire<\/a>, saving up enough miles for an award in a premium cabin will take too long and require significant spending.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Pay_with_miles\">Pay with miles<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Alternatively, you can use your Delta miles to &#8220;Pay with Miles.&#8221; When paying cash for your ticket, you can deduct $50 from the price for each 5,000 miles you redeem. This works out to a redemption rate of 1 cent per mile.
