It\u2019s pretty simple. If you\u2019ve earned points on a qualifying stay within the last 12 months, you can multiply those earnings by up to 4X. Unfortunately, the multiplier only applies to your most recent stay, and it refreshes monthly.<\/p>\n<p>To illustrate how this works, here's an example. Last October, I spent a night at the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marriott.com\/en-us\/hotels\/slcau-asher-adams-autograph-collection\/overview\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Asher Adams<\/a>. Buying points is only worth pursuing if you can unlock value from your purchase that exceeds what you'd otherwise pay for a stay.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, at the top end 4X multiplier, the best-available rate you can buy points is 0.88\u00a2 apiece. And with that, we'll note two things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Every so often, Marriott puts its points on sale.<\/strong> In the past 12 months, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/marriott-bonvoy\/buy-marriott-points\/#:~:text=Credit%3A%20Marriott-,Marriott%20Buy%20Points%20History,-The%20Marriott%20Bonvoy\" rel=\"noopener\">we've seen several promotions for buying Marriott points<\/a>, with the best rate being <strong>0.83\u00a2<\/strong> apiece. You might find better value in waiting for one of these sales to come around than multiplying your points.<\/li>\n<li><strong>On average, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/point-mile-values\/Marriott\" rel=\"noopener\">AwardWallet users redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for 1.12\u00a2 apiece<\/a>.<\/strong> It's possible to unlock greater value at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/marriott-bonvoy\/top-luxury-marriott-redemptions\/\" rel=\"noopener\">certain luxury properties<\/a> or <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/marriott-bonvoy\/best-budget-marriott-redemptions\/\" rel=\"noopener\">budget-friendly brands<\/a>, but 1.12\u00a2 per point is the average. Price out a stay you want to book and see if you'll come out ahead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the right circumstances, multiplying your Marriott points can make sense. Marriott's feature to multiply your points is an interesting additional way to build your Marriott Bonvoy points balance rather than <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/marriott-bonvoy\/buy-marriott-points\/\" rel=\"noopener\">buying them outright<\/a>, waiting to accumulate them through <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/marriott-bonvoy\/how-many-marriott-points-per-stay\/\" rel=\"noopener\">earning points on Marriott stays<\/a>, or collecting a welcome bonus from a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/marriott-bonvoy\/marriott-credit-card\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Bonvoy credit card<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Marriott points booster will not offer compelling value for all travelers.
