The partnership between American Airlines and Chilean low-cost carrier JetSMART isn't new, but as of today, it's expanding. Alongside adopting AAdvantage\u00ae<\/sup> as its loyalty program, JetSMART is awarding miles and Loyalty Points<\/a> on all domestic and international flights it operates. And, best of all, mileage redemptions are coming later this year.<\/p>\n

Here's what you need to know about the latest developments between American Airlines and JetSMART.<\/p>\n

What We Know So Far About JetSMART Joining AAdvantage<\/span><\/h2>\n

The American Airlines AAdvantage program is pretty popular. At least, that's what we gather from JetSMART adopting it as its loyalty program \u2014 joining the likes of Fiji Airways, which announced similar plans earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Effective today, there's a brand-new mileage earning table appended to the American Airlines partners website. In this table, you'll find a breakdown of how many AA miles you can earn on JetSMART flights. Depending on the fare class you book, you can earn as little as two miles and Loyalty Points per dollar spent or up to five \u2014 plus the multiplier available to you as an AAdvantage elite status member. However, it's worth noting that status members do not receive added travel benefits when flying on JetSMART.<\/p>\n

The JetSMART website has been updated to allow travelers to join the AAdvantage program and add frequent flyer numbers at the time of booking. So, yes, most of the benefits of this deepened relationship are now live.<\/p>\n

Most importantly to readers, mileage redemptions are not yet live. In the press release announcing the partnership developments<\/a>, American Airlines expects that AAdvantage members will be able to use miles for JetSMART flights starting later this year.<\/p>\n

It's unclear what award rates might look like, given JetSMART's bare-bones fare structure. However, in all likelihood, prices will most likely resemble what AA charges for GOL flights<\/a>. At the low end, you can book intra-South America flights for as little as 10,000 AAdvantage miles.<\/p>\n

However, one question we have is whether JetSMART awards will be priced dynamically<\/a>. After all, American Airlines trialed this with Fiji Airways<\/a>. Hopefully, this won't be the case with JetSMART, but at the very least, it's possible.<\/p>\n

It's always a good day when there are exciting loyalty program developments; in most cases, this means your hard-earned miles can take you further.
