The announcement finally puts to bed the sorry story of Air Berlin, which filed for insolvency along with its frequent flyer program Top Bonus a couple of months back.<\/p>\n<p>After that came the rumors that the airline would be scrapping its long-haul operations in October, followed by the confirmation that <a href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/air-berlin-terminates-long-haul-operations-october-15\/\">long-haul operations would cease on October 15<\/a>. Rumors then surfaced that the <a href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/airline-alliances-and-partnerships\/\">airline was to stop flying in early November<\/a>, as attempts to rescue it and the different bids over its assets where considered, and now the rumors have been confirmed that the airline will be finally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-10-09\/air-berlin-to-end-flights-oct-28-as-workers-told-to-seek-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">put out of its misery on October 28<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest winner from Air Berlin\u2019s demise will be Lufthansa which is hoovering up quite a few of its planes and routes.
