And most have an annual cap on the number of points you can transfer. Here's an overview of the programs you might want to transfer into (or out of) before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Transfer_IHG_points_between_family_and_friends\">Transfer IHG points between family and friends<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/ihg-one-rewards\/\" rel=\"noopener\">IHG One Rewards<\/a> unveiled the ability to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/ihg-one-rewards\/ihg-points-transfers\/\" rel=\"noopener\">transfer IHG points between accounts<\/a> in late 2023. You'll need Diamond Elite status with IHG or be an IHG Business Rewards program member with qualifying activity to make a transfer without paying a fee. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/ihg-one-rewards\/free-transfer-point-restrictions\/\" rel=\"noopener\">After a recent change<\/a>, qualifying members can now only transfer 100,000 points per year at no cost.<\/p>\n<p>Other members who wish to transfer points will need to pay a $5 fee per 1,000 points transferred. Considering that <a href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/point-mile-values\/ihg\">AwardWallet users typically redeem IHG points at a rate of 0.68\u00a2 per point<\/a>, you will likely only want to transfer points if you can do so for free. Otherwise, the fee you pay almost completely devalues your points. There are several thresholds that, if met in a calendar year, lock you out from transferring until the next calendar year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maximum monthly transactions:<\/strong> Two transfer transactions (giving or receiving) per month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maximum transactions per year:<\/strong> Six transfer transactions (giving or receiving) per calendar year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maximum transfer amounts:<\/strong> Transfer up to a maximum of 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> points per calendar year<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maximum received transfer:<\/strong> Receive up to a maximum of 500,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per calendar year transferred from other members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span id=\"Transfer_Hyatt_points\">Transfer Hyatt points<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Note that <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/world-of-hyatt\/\" rel=\"noopener\">World of Hyatt<\/a> does not have a calendar-year restriction on transfers \u2014 only a &#8220;once-per-30-day restriction,&#8221; which differs from a &#8220;once-per-calendar-month&#8221; restriction. Still, now might be a good time to consolidate balances with family members.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Strategically_Buy_Points_and_Miles\">Strategically Buy Points and Miles<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While we don't generally advocate purchasing points, it can make sense in certain instances \u2014 especially when there's an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/current-promotions-buy-points-miles\/\" rel=\"noopener\">ongoing bonus or discount<\/a>, or when you need a few points to make a redemption.
