AA was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/news\/citi-thankyou-rewards\/transfer-citi-points-american-airlines\/\" rel=\"noopener\">re-added as an official Citi transfer partner<\/a> on <strong>July 27, 2025<\/strong>, after nearly a four-year hiatus. You can now transfer Citi Points to AAdvantage at a 1:1 ratio in increments of 1,000 points. However, you still have options for using these points to book American Airlines flights.<\/p>\n<p>First, you can redeem those credit card points to book American Airlines paid flights by going through the card issuer\u2019s travel portal. While you'll get a fixed rate for your points, the downside is that it's usually only one cent per point.<\/p>\n<p>Or, if you want to book AA flights with credit card points at a potentially outsized value, you can leverage other <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/airlines\/book-american-flights-with-partner-miles\/\" rel=\"noopener\">programs that offer access to American Airlines award space<\/a> &#8212; such as British Airways Club, Iberia Plus, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Etihad Guest, and more. If you can\u2019t (or don\u2019t want to) use your hotel points for free nights, you can transfer them to AAdvantage. Marriott points transfer to AA at a 3:1 ratio. However, unlike other Marriott airline partners, you won\u2019t get a bonus for transferring at least 60,000 points. But since there's an extensive <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/marriott-bonvoy\/marriott-credit-card\/\" rel=\"noopener\">lineup of Marriott credit cards<\/a>, it's pretty easy to rack up a meaningful amount of points.<\/p>\n<p>AwardWallet users, on average, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/point-mile-values\/Marriott\" rel=\"noopener\">redeem Marriott points at 0.93\u00a2 apiece<\/a>. So if you can get at least three times that value from your AAdvantage miles, the transfer becomes easier to justify. But just keep in mind these transfers aren\u2019t instant \u2014 they can take <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/mile-transfer-times?program=American%2520Airlines\" rel=\"noopener\">up to a few days to process<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Top_Ways_to_Earn_American_Airlines_Miles\">Top Ways to Earn American Airlines Miles<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are plenty of reasons to earn American Airlines miles, and while AA doesn\u2019t have many transfer partners, you still have plenty of ways to earn them.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most straightforward options is applying for an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/american-aadvantage\/american-airlines-credit-card\/\" rel=\"noopener\">American Airlines credit card<\/a> and meeting the minimum spending requirement.
