Like many loyalty programs, World of Hyatt<\/a> allows you to transfer rewards between members. But unlike most other programs, Hyatt doesn't restrict who you can send them to or cap the amount you can transfer. Best of all, there's no fee to share points with another member! That makes pooling points<\/a> with a significant other or even a friend surprisingly simple.<\/p>\n

Here's what you need to know about transferring Hyatt points, including when it makes sense and how the process works.<\/p>\n

Why You Might Want To Combine Hyatt Points<\/span><\/h2>\n

There are several reasons you might want to combine World of Hyatt points, from extending their expiration date to unlocking better redemptions and elite perks.<\/p>\n

Extending expiration dates<\/span><\/h3>\n

Crazy enough, transferring points between members counts as qualifying activity. Every time you combine points with someone, whether you're giving or receiving, you extend the expiration date of your Hyatt points<\/a> by 24 months.<\/p>\n

Enjoying higher elite status perks<\/span><\/h3>\n

Not everyone travels enough to earn top-tier elite status, and Hyatt understands that. If you have the points but your travel companion has the higher status, you can transfer your points into their account and book the reservation under their name. That way, you can receive elite perks such as complimentary breakfast<\/a>, late checkout, and free parking on award nights.<\/p>\n

For example, my husband Jon<\/a> travels for work and earns a lot of Hyatt points on his stays. However, we consistently combine his points into my account so that we can book all our leisure hotel stays from my account, since I am a Hyatt Globalist<\/a> and he's not. That way, we both get to enjoy the benefits that come with that level of status.<\/p>\n

Booking a points-advance stay<\/span><\/h3>\n

Members with elite status can book a Points Advance award stay<\/a>. You don't need enough points to cover the full cost upfront, as long as you have the required balance by check-in time.<\/p>\n

This ability to jump on a great points redemption and worry about the points later has come in handy plenty of times for me. It gives me time to figure out whether I can combine points from my spouse's account, transfer points from another program or simply rack up enough points via The World of Hyatt Credit Card<\/a> (Rates & Fees<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Booking better award stays<\/span><\/h3>\n

Sometimes you might want to book a suite at a high-end property, but you don't have enough points to cover the entire stay. If your travel companion has points, you can pool them together and book the reservation. If neither of you has Hyatt elite status<\/a> \u2014 or if you both have the same status \u2014 then it doesn't really matter who makes the booking.<\/p>\n

Transferring points from partners<\/span><\/h3>\n

World of Hyatt is a transfer partner like Chase Ultimate Rewards<\/a> and Bilt Rewards<\/a>. So, if you don't have the ability to tap into those sources but your fellow traveler does, they can transfer points to Hyatt and then combine their Hyatt points with yours.<\/p>\n

How To Transfer Hyatt Points to Another Member<\/span><\/h2>\n

Hyatt has modernized its digital infrastructure, allowing you to share most Milestone Rewards<\/a> online, including Guest of Honor<\/a>, Suite Upgrade Awards<\/a>, and Club Access Awards<\/a>. However, combining points still requires a manual process.<\/p>\n

When you're ready to combine your points, head to Hyatt's purchase, share, and gift landing page<\/a>, where you'll find the Points Combining Request Form<\/a> (caution: PDF link). The form lists the information required from both members.<\/p>\n

You will need to provide information for both members and authorize all Hyatt points transfers. Be sure the names exactly match what is on each Hyatt account. I once had a request rejected simply because I wrote “Ben” instead of “Benjamin.”<\/p>\n

Once the form is filled out and signed by both members, you can email it to the address listed. There is also an option to send it by snail mail. Transfers are processed manually, so it may take a few days before the points appear in the receiving account.<\/p>\n

Because I have Globalist status \u2014 and the absolute greatest My Hyatt Concierge \u2014 I CC her whenever I email a points-combining form. That gives her visibility into the request, and sometimes the transfer gets processed more quickly. However, I can't say whether this is standard practice or whether all Globalists can expect such stellar treatment.<\/p>\n

Restrictions on Hyatt Points Transfers<\/span><\/h2>\n

World of Hyatt members can only combine points once every 30 days, whether sending or receiving. So, it may make sense to let your balance grow rather than making smaller, more frequent transfers.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, Hyatt places few restrictions on transfers. There's no limit to how many points you can send or receive, and you can share them with any World of Hyatt member \u2014 they don't need to be a family member or live in your household.<\/p>\n

There is an expectation that you will combine points to make a redemption. In my experience, I have never been asked to prove redemption after a points transfer or explain in advance what I would use the points for. But if you don't abuse this process, then it's unlikely you'll run into issues yourself.<\/p>\n
