The idea was to let travelers choose the experience that best fits their preferences.<\/p>\n<p>But here\u2019s the catch: that choice doesn\u2019t come free. Even if you <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/airlines\/book-lufthansa-allegris-using-miles\/\" rel=\"noopener\">book Lufthansa Allegris using points and miles<\/a>, you may be surprised to find that you can\u2019t simply pick the seat you want without paying extra.<\/p>\n<p>I found this out firsthand when I booked a Lufthansa Allegris business class award. The cabins are officially known as \u201cLufthansa Allegris,\u201d but the airline sometimes just refers to them more simply as its \u201cnew seat concept.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And what a concept it is. These cabins are unique to Lufthansa and feature five (yes, <em>five<\/em>) different types of business class seats. Having just flown one long-haul, I can say it was mostly a fantastic way to cross the pond.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_224445\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-aspectratio=\"750\/600\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-224445 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Lufthansa-Allegris-Featured-1.png\" alt=\"Lufthansa Allegris business class cabin.\" width=\"750\" height=\"600\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Lufthansa-Allegris-Featured-1.png 1000w, https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Lufthansa-Allegris-Featured-1-300x240.png 300w, https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Lufthansa-Allegris-Featured-1-768x614.png 768w, https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Lufthansa-Allegris-Featured-1-325x260.png 325w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><center><em>Credit: Tyler Glatt\/AwardWallet<\/em><\/enter><\/figure>\n<p>But after booking this Lufthansa Allegris business class award from Munich (MUC) to Charlotte (CLT) using <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/airlines\/air-canada-aeroplan\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Air Canada Aeroplan<\/a> points, I was quickly reminded that simply booking business class doesn\u2019t guarantee you the option to pick anything other than a &#8220;Classic Seat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To put it bluntly, the Classic Seat offers the least amount of privacy and is the closest to the aisle.<\/p>\n<p>And to pick anything other than a Classic Seat, you'll need to be a Miles & More HON Circle or Senator member. Otherwise, you'll need to break out your wallet &#8212; or roll the dice to see what you're assigned at check-in.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"What_Does_It_Cost_to_Pick_an_Allegris_Business_Class_Seat\">What Does It Cost to Pick an Allegris Business Class Seat?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, paying for the seat you want is not exactly cheap either. Maybe. Lufthansa used to publish a fee table for selecting Allegris seats on its website. However, that page has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lufthansa.com\/de\/en\/sitzplatzreservierung#business\" rel=\"noopener\">since been removed<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, $200+ was too steep a price to pay on top of the miles redeemed to book the flight. Plus, it would've cost double since I was traveling with a companion.<\/p>\n<p>So, I followed advice I'd read elsewhere to hold off until 30 hours before departure when check-in opened, as this was allegedly when Lufthansa released seats for free selection.<\/p>\n<p>But that never happened, though. I was assigned a Classic Seat at check-in. Meanwhile, my wife was assigned an Extra Long Bed seat across the aisle. They were perfectly fine for a daytime flight between Europe and the U.S., though it\u2019s hard to deny that a little extra privacy would\u2019ve been nice.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Bottom_Line\">Bottom Line<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If flying Lufthansa\u2019s new Allegris business class cabins is on your award travel bucket list, I\u2019d definitely recommend finding a way to check it off. However, realize that not all Lufthansa Allegris seats are the same. Instead, there are five different business class seat types on the same aircraft. And unless you have Miles & More elite status or are willing to pay, you risk ending up in a Classic Seat.<\/p>\n<p>While a &#8220;Classic Seat&#8221; doesn't sound bad, note that these seats have very little privacy, the headrest is uncomfortably close to the Privacy Seat in front, and the partition is low enough that tall passengers have a nearly unobstructed view of your neighbor\u2019s in-flight entertainment screen.<\/p>\n<p>All that said, Lufthansa Allegris is a nice way to cross the Atlantic, but go in with the right expectations. Booking business class with points doesn\u2019t guarantee you the best seat.
