This is one of many steps in integrating <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/news\/airlines\/ita-airways-joining-star-alliance\/\" rel=\"noopener\">ITA Airways into Star Alliance after the airline left SkyTeam<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Here's everything you need to know about the new partnership, including flight options that are already available.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"You_Can_Now_Earn_and_Redeem_MileagePlus_Miles_on_ITA_Airways_Flights\">You Can Now Earn and Redeem MileagePlus Miles on ITA Airways Flights<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/airlines\/united-mileageplus\/\" rel=\"noopener\">United MileagePlus<\/a> members will have even more flexibility on how to earn and redeem their miles with the new partnership with ITA Airways. Credit: ITA Airways<\/em><\/enter><\/figure>\n<h3><span id=\"Earning_MileagePlus_miles_on_ITA_flights\">Earning MileagePlus miles on ITA flights<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To earn award miles and Premier qualifying credits (both <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/airlines\/united-mileageplus\/how-to-earn-premier-qualifying-points-pqp\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier Qualifying Points<\/a> and Premier Qualifying Flights) on an ITA Airways flight, you'll need to add your MileagePlus number to your reservation and ensure it is on your boarding pass when you check in.<\/p>\n<p>If you buy your ticket from ITA Airways or a travel agency, you will earn miles based on the distance flown and fare class:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Business (J, C, E):<\/strong> 200%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Discount Business (D, I):<\/strong> 150%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Premium Economy (P, U):<\/strong> 150%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Discount Premium Economy (A):<\/strong> 100%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Full-fare Economy (Y, B, M, H, K, V):<\/strong> 100%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Economy (T, N, S):<\/strong> 75%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Discount Economy (Q, X, W):<\/strong> 50%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Deep discount Economy (L, O):<\/strong> 25%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You won't earn any miles if you fly in fare classes R, G, Z, or F.<\/p>\n<p>You can also buy your ticket directly from United, where you will earn based on the fare price and your level of status:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Member<\/strong>: 5 miles per dollar<\/li>\n<li><strong>Premier Silver<\/strong>: 7 miles per dollar<\/li>\n<li><strong>Premier Gold<\/strong>: 8 miles per dollar<\/li>\n<li><strong>Premier Platinum<\/strong>: 9 miles per dollar<\/li>\n<li><strong>Premier 1K<\/strong>: 11 miles per dollar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to the opportunity to earn bonus miles, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/airlines\/united-mileageplus\/premier-gold-status\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier Gold<\/a>, Platinum and 1K\u202fmembers can access ITA Airways lounges when flying on ITA Airways-operated flights. There are only a handful of these lounges sprinkled throughout Italy, but every new lounge option is helpful.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Redeem_MileagePlus_miles_on_ITA_flights\">Redeem MileagePlus miles on ITA flights<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You can also redeem your United MileagePlus miles for ITA Airways flights online now. However, this isn't a cost-effective option on select routes.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, this flight from Newark (EWR) to Geneva (GVA) with a layover in Rome (FCO) would cost 70,000 miles, plus $26.70 in taxes and fees, in <em>economy<\/em>. You can fly from Boston (BOS) to Rome (FCO) with a layover in Zurich (ZRH) for just 88,000 miles in business class.
