As we get closer to the end of the elite status qualification year, it\u2019s not unusual to see airlines trot out promotions to help travelers cross the finish line. One of the more common offers lately has been awarding elite status credits when you contribute to an airline\u2019s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) goals. In Air Canada\u2019s case, you can contribute to its SAF initiative and buy up to 5,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQMs)<\/a> through October 25, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Here's how this promotion works.<\/p>\n

Contribute to SAF and Get Up to 5,000 Aeroplan SQMs<\/span><\/h2>\n

If you're chasing elite status with Air Canada Aeroplan<\/a> this year, you can boost your progress by effectively buying Status Qualifying Miles (SQMs). Through October 25, 2025<\/strong>, Air Canada is offering up to 5,000 SQMs (in blocks of 500) when you contribute to its SAF initiative with Chooose.<\/p>\n

Each block of 500 SQMs costs about 150 Canadian dollars (CAD). Chooose lets you switch currencies, but it's best to pay in CAD since the exchange rate usually works out better than if you pay in U.S. dollars. For example, buying the full 5,000 SQMs costs 1,499.85 CAD (about $1,075.74 USD) versus $1,107.86 if you pay in USD.<\/p>\n

To get the most bang for your buck, pay in CAD with a card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees<\/a>. Once your purchase is complete, your SQMs will be deposited in your Aeroplan account by December 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

What's a SAF initiative anyway?<\/span><\/h3>\n

If this promotion caught your attention, it\u2019s probably because of the chance to buy Aeroplan Status Qualifying Miles. But those SQMs come from contributing to Air Canada\u2019s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) goals. As the Chooose website explains:<\/p>\n

“Under this offer, half of your contribution goes directly towards the purchase of SAF. Your contribution to SAF supports Air Canada\u2019s long-term aspiration of net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, and helps reduce reliance on conventional aviation fuel over time.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In other words, you\u2019re effectively helping Air Canada buy SAF for future use and likely supporting ongoing research to make it a more practical alternative to conventional jet fuel. And in return, you\u2019re rewarded with SQMs.<\/p>\n

It's worth noting that Air Canada isn\u2019t the only airline to offer elite status credits in exchange for contributing to sustainability efforts. JetBlue TrueBlue<\/a> and Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards<\/a> (formerly Mileage Plan) have both run similar promotions offering elite credits in exchange for contributions to SAF projects.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re trying to lock in Air Canada Aeroplan elite status for next year but aren\u2019t sure you\u2019ll earn enough Status Qualifying Miles (SQMs) by the end of the qualification year, Air Canada is giving you the option to buy up to 5,000 SQMs<\/a>. Earning status credits organically is always the best option, but if that\u2019s not realistic, this promotion offers a straightforward way to get across (or at least close to) the finish line. The offer runs through October 25, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
