Avianca has been working to improve over the past few years. The flag carrier of Colombia has added substantial connectivity throughout the Americas, reportedly reduced carbon emissions by 15%, and launched a variety of codeshare partnerships with other airlines, including GOL and Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas. Today, at a press conference in Bogota, Colombia, AwardWallet got the scoop on what's next for Avianca.<\/p>\n

Here's what you need to know.<\/p>\n

Avianca to Introduce Domestic Business Class<\/span><\/h2>\n

Avianca shares that part of its plan for the future is to provide consistent service throughout your entire journey. To accomplish this goal, Avianca is expanding its so-called ‘Business Class Americas' product to include domestic routes in Colombia, Ecuador, and Guatemala beginning January 15, 2026. This change won't require a retrofit of the aircraft, as the carrier has already installed “premium” seats in the first three rows of its fleet for the past 18 months.<\/p>\n

Rather than an actual product change, Avianca is focusing on the experience. You'll enjoy business class amenities, including in-flight dining, extra baggage allowance, priority service, and access to Avianca VIP lounges. Plus, you'll earn bonus LifeMiles<\/a>\u00a0per dollar spent on your flight.<\/p>\n

Business class will be offered on 47 domestic routes throughout Colombia, Ecuador, and Guatemala when it launches in January, and will roll out across 18 additional routes after. This will complement the more than 80 international routes that offer Business Class Americas.<\/p>\n

Business class benefits extend to your time on the ground, too. Avianca is launching a new “Insignia by Avianca” check-in service at the El Dorado airport in Bogota (BOG). It will be available exclusively to LifeMiles Diamond and Concierge members, as well as those traveling in Insignia on flights to Europe. The Diamond VIP Lounges at the Bogota airport are also undergoing extensive renovations, allowing you to experience a taste of luxury before stepping on board.<\/p>\n

In-Flight Wi-Fi Coming to the Entire Avianca Fleet<\/span><\/h2>\n

In addition to new business class offerings, Avianca will be rolling out Wi-Fi across its entire fleet. This will help you stay connected to loved ones, work, or watch onboard entertainment directly from your device. Avianca On Air is already available on 10 aircraft, and should be rolled out to all narrowbody aircraft in 2026 and widebody aircraft in 2027.<\/p>\n

There are different packages available, depending on whether you want to message, browse the internet, or stream. On my flight from Mexico City (MEX) to Bogota (BOG) for the press conference, Avianca on Air was available.<\/p>\n

Messaging is free for LifeMiles Silver Elite members, which I get through my avianca lifemiles American Express\u00ae<\/sup> Elite Card<\/a>. However, I got an error message each time I tried to log in. It was relatively affordable ($15) to get connected for the full flight. But after troubles connecting to the free version, I didn't want to risk paying for full connectivity only to run into the same issue. Hopefully, as it continues to roll out, these bugs will get fixed.<\/p>\n
