Up until recently, cardholders of the Chase Sapphire Preferred\u00ae<\/sup> Card<\/a> could redeem their Ultimate Reward Points<\/a> through the Chase Travel portal<\/a> for a flat rate of 1.25 cents per point, while cardholders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> could redeem for 1.5 cents per point.<\/p>\n

Then, when the Sapphire Reserve got refreshed in 2025, Chase introduced Points Boost<\/a>. Rather than offering a flat redemption rate based on your card, Chase promoted that cardholders could redeem their points for up to 2 cents per point, depending on the airline, route, or hotel you book.<\/p>\n

At launch, hotels that were part of Chase's The Edit<\/a> qualified for an elevated redemption rate of 2 cents per point. Unfortunately, this is changing, with select hotels already falling below the 2 cents per point threshold. Cardholders are rightfully upset about this change. In response to the outrage, Chase is offering an extension of the previous value through December 22, 2025<\/strong>. Here's what you need to know.<\/p>\n

What Is Points Boost?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Technically, Points Boost could provide a solid return for your Ultimate Rewards Points \u2014 up to 2 cents per point. However, the list of hotels and flights eligible for Points Boost is constantly changing. When you're ready to make a redemption, there's no guarantee that your desired route or property will be eligible for Points Boost, meaning you'll redeem at a lower 1 cent per point valuation.<\/p>\n

The benefit of the old redemption methods was that you'd get the same value from your points every time you booked travel through Chase Travel. The ability to plan ahead means you'll know exactly how many points you need for a redemption. Plus, Points Boost offers redemptions “up to” 2 cents per point, meaning a redemption could actually yield somewhere between 1 and 2 cents.<\/p>\n

However, if you regularly stay at luxury properties, being able to redeem your Ultimate Rewards Points for bookings with The Edit at 2 cents per point was phenomenal. You could also combine the Sapphire Reserve‘s $500 annual credit on The Edit bookings<\/a> with points to pay for the remainder of your stay.<\/p>\n

Like most things, the guaranteed redemption rate for The Edit bookings was too good to be true. Chase changed the terms and conditions to include The Edit bookings in the “up to 2 cents per point” category. In other words, while some hotels will still show the increased valuation, other hotels have already fallen by around 17%.<\/p>\n

Book The Edit Properties at 2 Cents per Point Through December 22<\/span><\/h2>\n

If you book a stay at a property through The Edit by December 22, 2025<\/strong>, Chase will honor the previous points value. You can book the property at the advertised rate, and you'll see a credit in your account after booking that reflects the 2 cents per point valuation. While plenty of properties are still available at the higher rate, others have been lowered to around 1.65 cents per point \u2014 a massive devaluation, overnight. Unfortunately, Chase offering an extension via an account adjustment means you'll need enough Ultimate Rewards Points to book at the current rates.<\/p>\n

Final Thoughts<\/span><\/h2>\n

It's disappointing that Chase eliminated the guaranteed point valuation for bookings through The Edit, but it isn't entirely surprising. However, if you have a property in mind you want to book with points, you should complete the booking within the next few days to lock in the higher redemption rate. As long as you have enough points to book at the current rates, you'll see an adjustment in your account following the redemption.<\/p>\n

After December 22, there's no guaranteeing the value you'll receive when booking a property through The Edit. While some hotels might still offer the higher rate, others might drop substantially.<\/p>\n
