It's official. Citi is removing its Points Sharing benefit. The benefit, which allows eligible cardholders of Citi ThankYou\u00ae<\/sup> Points-earning credit cards to make fee-free transfers between accounts, will be removed on May 17, 2026<\/strong>. Here's what you need to know.<\/p>\n

What Is Citi Points Sharing?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Citi currently offers a Points Transfer redemption option. Anyone with an eligible Citi credit card<\/a> that earns Citi ThankYou Points<\/a> can transfer those points to another ThankYou Member account. You must use your shared points within 90 days, but it's a helpful feature if you want your friend to book your flight or hotel on your behalf. Plus, there's no fee or minimum points required for transfers. You can transfer and be transferred up to 100,000 ThankYou Points per year. Other than that, it is a very flexible and generous option.<\/p>\n

Citi is somewhat unique in offering a points sharing benefit. American Express doesn't let you share your Membership Rewards with anyone<\/a>, and Chase only allows transfers between people living in the same household. This gave Citi a leg up on the competition, especially for those who frequently book group travel.<\/p>\n

Citi Ending Points Sharing Redemption Method<\/span><\/h2>\n

All good things must come to an end. And if you don't keep a close eye on your credit card statements, you might miss the news. Citi will remove Points Sharing as a benefit on May 17, 2026<\/strong>. The last day to make a transfer will be on May 16, 2026. That means you have just over two months to make any last-minute transfers.<\/p>\n

After this deadline, Citi will join American Express and Chase in restricting person-to-person transfers. At least for now, Capital One will keep its miles-sharing<\/a> abilities.<\/p>\n

AwardWallet reached out to a Citi spokesperson about the news, and they confirmed that Points Sharing will no longer be a redemption option starting in May. Cardmembers should see the disclaimer on their next statement. Interestingly, at the time of writing, there is still no announcement on the Points Sharing portal or in the Points Sharing FAQ<\/a>.<\/p>\n
