Big things are happening at Germany\u2019s Frankfurt Airport on April 23, 2026. For starters, the airport will open its long-awaited, state-of-the-art Terminal 3. It\u2019s also the day the SkyTeam alliance opens the doors to its first branded lounge in Europe.<\/p>\n

Ahead of Thursday\u2019s official opening, AwardWallet had the special opportunity to get a sneak peek of SkyTeam\u2019s new flagship lounge. So, here\u2019s your first look inside, along with the particulars on who can access it and what to expect during a visit.<\/p>\n

Inside the New SkyTeam Lounge at Frankfurt Airport<\/span><\/h2>\n

There are plenty of bright and shiny objects in Frankfurt Airport\u2019s new Terminal 3. Trust me, it\u2019s pretty cool in there. But one addition that\u2019ll play a big role in elevating the passenger experience for years to come is the new SkyTeam lounge.<\/p>\n

The SkyTeam Lounge FRA is located in Terminal 3\u2019s non-Schengen international zone (Pier J). Plenty of signage will point you in the right direction, but you\u2019ll find the branded entrance just past security and passport control. From there, head up to Level 4 via the escalator and continue down a rather long hallway.<\/p>\n

Layout<\/span><\/h3>\n

From the moment you step inside this roughly 6,000-square-foot space (about 550 square meters), you\u2019ll get a sense of the theme SkyTeam and its partner, the Global Lounge Network, were going for.<\/p>\n

For all intents and purposes, the vibe is very outdoorsy. Beyond the tree-like sculpture in the middle of the lounge, there\u2019s greenery lining several walls, tall-stalked plants dividing seating areas, wood accents, and flowers and orchids throughout that add splashes of color.<\/p>\n

The lounge has room for 128 guests. At first blush, that number might seem a bit generous, though it\u2019s largely a function of the variety of seating strategically placed throughout the space.<\/p>\n

On one end, several chairs, plus a pod-style banquette, are flanked by a wall of greenery.<\/p>\n

On the other side, multiple seating arrangements \u2014 including individual, first-come, first-served workstations and a phone\/video call booth \u2014 sit beneath floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views of the tarmac.<\/p>\n

Toward the middle of the lounge, dining-style seating is arranged around the tree sculpture. Seats here offer easy access to the self-serve snack and refreshment island, as well as the bar, which has wraparound seating on three sides.<\/p>\n

Beyond that, the lounge features two additional areas that are sort of tucked away \u2014 a VIP section and a relaxation room (more on those shortly).<\/p>\n

And at the very back of the lounge, just to the left of the bar, you\u2019ll find the restrooms and two shower suites.<\/p>\n

Food and beverage<\/span><\/h3>\n

Many SkyTeam carriers fly into Frankfurt from their hubs around the world, and the cuisine reflects that. There will be some staples — like pretzels, sandwiches, pastries, and sweets — but hot items will rotate monthly.<\/p>\n

At the preview, SkyTeam leadership drew attention to a chef-staffed hot station, where a selection of dishes will be made to order. Guests can walk up to order or place one from anywhere in the lounge via QR code.<\/p>\n

On the beverage side, travelers can grab coffee, soft drinks, water, and more, or head to the bar for an alcoholic drink. Some of the selections will include German beers and wines, as well as a SkyTeam blue spritz.<\/p>\n

Amenities<\/span><\/h3>\n

The SkyTeam Lounge Frankfurt Airport checks all the necessary amenity boxes you\u2019d expect from an airport lounge.<\/p>\n

Most importantly, there\u2019s fast Wi-Fi available throughout the lounge and ample power outlets (all Type F, so don't forget your adapter).<\/p>\n

Other notable amenities include what SkyTeam calls a VIP area. If you\u2019re curious, it\u2019s not reserved for top-tier elites or first class passengers. Instead, it\u2019s a first-come, first-served space that\u2019s a bit quieter and more secluded than the rest of the lounge.<\/p>\n

The entrance to the VIP area is just to the right of the relaxation room, which is home to a handful of daybed-style chairs.<\/p>\n

And you can\u2019t forget about the two shower suites, which are a personal favorite feature in any airport lounge.<\/p>\n

How to Access the SkyTeam Lounge Frankfurt<\/span><\/h2>\n

The SkyTeam Lounge Frankfurt Airport is open daily from three hours before the first SkyTeam departure until the last flight of the day.<\/p>\n

Access is limited to first and business class passengers, as well as SkyTeam Elite Plus<\/a> members (regardless of travel class, with one guest on the same SkyTeam-operated flight). Over the next several months, airlines will gradually move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3, so the transition won\u2019t happen all at once.<\/p>\n

For now, the lounge is slated to serve passengers departing on international flights operated by China Airlines, China Eastern, Delta, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines (MEA), Saudia, and Vietnam Airlines.<\/p>\n

Access is limited to no more than three hours before departure.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, there\u2019s no option to purchase a day pass to the SkyTeam Lounge. That said, other SkyTeam lounges — including those in Vancouver and Santiago de Chile — are part of the Priority Pass<\/a> network.<\/p>\n

If the Frankfurt location eventually joins, access could be available through a Priority Pass Select membership offered by several credit cards. For now, though, it\u2019s unclear if or when that might happen.<\/p>\n

Final Thoughts<\/span><\/h2>\n

SkyTeam is slowly but surely expanding its lounge footprint at major airports where multiple member airlines operate, but none dominate. Frankfurt Airport \u2014 especially with the new terminal \u2014 is precisely the kind of location SkyTeam CEO Patrick Roux referenced as a perfect fit.<\/p>\n

So, it\u2019s probably fair to say Frankfurt won\u2019t be the last lounge SkyTeam opens.<\/p>\n

But until that day comes when there's a next one, travelers already have a solid list of lounges they can access. That includes Frankfurt, four other branded lounges, a joint lounge with the Global Lounge Network, and more than 750 non-branded member lounges worldwide.<\/p>\n
