As a Titanium elite for many years, I've learned how to maximize all of the perks and benefits that come as part of this top-tier status. But since the program rebranded in 2024, many new perks have been added, including new Alaska Atmos Titanium Global Upgrades.

Here's everything you need to know about these upgrades and how they differ from the ones Atmos elites may have already been familiar with.

How Upgrades Work on Alaska Atmos

Travelers with Alaska Airlines elite status have historically enjoyed complimentary, space-available upgrades to domestic first class when booked into eligible economy fares. The higher up the elite ladder, the earlier your upgrade window opens:

Titanium: 120 hours before departure

Gold: 72 hours before departure

Silver: 48 hours before departure

However, these complimentary upgrades do not apply to global flights. For those, you'll need to apply a Milestone Rewards Upgrade Certificate or hope for a Titanium Global Upgrade.

Atmos Rewards Titanium Global Upgrades

Titanium Global Upgrades allows Titanium elites — plus one companion traveling on the same reservation — to receive a complimentary upgrade into international business or first class on the day of departure when eligible space is available. No points, cash, or Upgrade Certificates are required. This benefit applies to both paid and award tickets.

One thing to remember is making sure the First Class upgrade checkbox is selected during checkout when booking either a paid fare or an award ticket. If not enabled, you won't be entered onto the waitlist for your upgrade to clear when the time comes.

Screenshot of Alaska Airlines</enter>

Since Titanium Global Upgrades don't clear until the day of departure, Alaska can continue selling premium-cabin seats until the last minute. But later in 2026, Atmos will introduce additional ways to qualify for elite status, allowing members to earn status based on miles flown, eligible spending, or flight segments.

Flying on Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and most of its partners is the most familiar way to earn Atmos Rewards elite status — the more you fly (or spend), the higher up the elite level you climb.

You can also earn elite status by spending on one of Atmos Rewards' cobranded credit cards:

Atmos™ Rewards Ascent Visa Signature® card

Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® Card

Atmos™ Rewards Visa Business Card

You can also earn status points through Atmos Rewards spend partners, including rental car companies, hotels, cruise lines, and merchants like 1-800-FLOWERS, making it easy to earn toward status even when you're not flying.

For every 3,000 points you earn through spending with these partners, you will receive an extra 1,000 status points to get you closer to the next elite tier.

Bottom Line

Alaska Atmos Titanium Global Upgrades are a valuable new perk for top-tier elites, especially as Alaska and Hawaiian expand their long-haul networks.

The catch is that these upgrades only clear on the day of departure, so they’re far from guaranteed. But if premium-cabin space is still available, Titanium elites — and one companion on the same reservation — could move from economy into business or first class on eligible international flights without using points, cash, or upgrade certificates.

That makes this a useful benefit to understand, but not one to count on when booking.
