Although we come to associate a &#8220;refresh&#8221; with an annual fee increase, that isn't the case today.<\/p>\n<p>Sapphire Preferred cardholders will soon be able to enjoy a variety of new earning categories, travel credits, and protections at the same $95 annual fee that we know and love.<\/p>\n<p>Here's what to know about the latest Sapphire Preferred changes.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Chase_Sapphire_Preferred_Refresh_What8217s_Changing\">Chase Sapphire Preferred Refresh: What's Changing?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Chase has just announced an update to one of the most popular <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/best-credit-card-for-travel\/\" rel=\"noopener\">travel rewards credit cards<\/a> on the market: the <a data-ccid=\"2061159\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/chase-sapphire-preferred\/\">Sapphire Preferred<\/a>. The introduction of a 3X bonus category on gas and EV charging purchases makes the Sapphire Preferred much more competitive with the Citi Strata Premier, which offers an equivalent bonus earning category.<\/p>\n<p>However, adding a 3X bonus category for vacation rentals gives the Sapphire Preferred a leg up over most cards at this price point. Hopefully, this will become a trend for credit card issuers, as it would be great to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/hotels\/how-to-book-airbnb\/\" rel=\"noopener\">earn bonus points on Airbnb stays<\/a>. Most issuers code vacation rentals as travel purchases, and when the <a data-ccid=\"4048084\" href=\"\/blog\/link\/ChaseSapphireReserve\" rel=\"noopener nofollow sponsored\">Chase Sapphire Reserve<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> (<a data-ccid=\"4048084\" href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/fs-bin\/click?id=g3lR0xvjyAU&offerid=1975477.10005148&type=3&subid=0164566b06705fea78c2230e078ac8d67&subid=639396\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rates & Fees<\/a>) removed the 3X general travel bonus category in 2025, it was a step away from maximizing Airbnb purchases.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"New_and_improved_travel_credits\">New and improved travel credits<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Trusted Traveler program credit is a nice-to-have and makes the card more competitive with the Capital One Venture. However, most travelers already have a way to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/expedited-airport-security-programs\/\" rel=\"noopener\">enroll in expedited security screening for free<\/a>, so it isn't a mind-blowing improvement. Likewise, the complimentary Apple TV subscription is a nice perk, but not something that will convince you to apply.<\/p>\n<p>The updated <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/chase-sapphire-preferred-hotel-credit\/\" rel=\"noopener\">$100 Chase Travel hotel credit<\/a> makes it even more competitive with the Citi Strata Premier and now completely covers the annual fee.\u00a0Assuming you stay in at least one hotel a year, the <a data-ccid=\"2061159\" href=\"\/blog\/link\/ChaseSapphirePreferredCard\" rel=\"noopener nofollow sponsored\">Sapphire Preferred<\/a> is simply a no-brainer addition to every traveler's wallet.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Why_you_might_apply_before_June_15_2026\">Why you might apply before June 15, 2026<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If this refresh has convinced you to apply, you might want to do so before <strong>June 15, 2026<\/strong>. Sapphire Preferred cardholders will deal with two negative changes in the coming months:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/chase-removing-sapphire-preferred-anniversary-bonus\/\" rel=\"noopener\">10% anniversary bonus is being discontinued<\/a>.<\/strong> If you apply before June 15, eligible purchases made through October 1, 2026, will earn the 10% bonus &#8212; which will be posted in early 2027.
