And Citi has just announced an overhaul that has more than delivered.<\/p>\n<p>Cardholders can enjoy a variety of new and enhanced benefits, ranging from a new $500 American Airlines Vacations credit to complimentary Omni Hotels & Resorts elite status.<\/p>\n<p>Let's dive into these changes and determine if they justify an increase in annual fees.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"AA_Executive_Card_Refresh_What8217s_Changing\">AA Executive Card Refresh: What's Changing?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There's a lot to unpack in the AA Executive Card&#8216;s refresh. For <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/\" rel=\"noopener\">American Airlines AAdvantage<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> loyalists, these are mostly positive changes.<\/p>\n<p>To start, it's transitioning from a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/world-elite-mastercard-benefits\/\" rel=\"noopener\">World Elite Mastercard<\/a> to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/mastercard-world-legend\/\" rel=\"noopener\">World Legend Mastercard<\/a>. While very few cards receive this relatively new designation, this transition is not surprising. Cardholders have already been able to access many World Legend benefits, and the mid-tier <a data-ccid=\"5048392\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/american-aadvantage\/citi-aadvantage-globe-card-review\/\">Citi<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> \/ AAdvantage<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Globe\u2122 Mastercard<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> is also a World Legend Mastercard.<\/p>\n<p>Citi is adding a suite of new perks to the AA Executive Card, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>American Airlines Vacations credit:<\/strong> Every calendar year, you can earn up to $500 in statement credits on eligible <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/american-aadvantage\/aa-vacations\/\" rel=\"noopener\">American Airlines Vacations<\/a> travel packages or experiences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In-flight and Admirals Club<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> credit:<\/strong> Every calendar year, you can earn up to $100 in statement credits on in-flight and eligible Admirals Club purchases.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Complimentary Omni Hotels & Resorts Champion Status:<\/strong> Enroll to receive automatic Champion Status, the second highest tier in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/hotels\/omni-select-guest\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Omni's Select Guest program<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Omni Free Night Reward:<\/strong> You can earn a free night reward after completing a qualifying stay of 2+ nights booked directly through Omni. Enrollment in Champion status is required for this benefit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Complimentary Avis President's Club status:<\/strong> Enjoy top-tier Avis elite status when you enroll by August 31, 2028.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the following benefits are being enhanced:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Annual Lyft credits:<\/strong> After taking three eligible rides in a calendar month, you can earn a $15 Lyft credit, for a total of $180 in Lyft credits each year. This is up from the previous $10 monthly\/$120 annual Lyft credit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Earnings on AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars: <\/strong>Earn 12X miles on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/aa-hotels\/\" rel=\"noopener\">AAdvantage Hotels<\/a> and AAdvantage Cars (up from 10X).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Loyalty Point milestone bonuses: <\/strong>Earn 10,000 bonus <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/loyalty-points\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Loyalty Points<\/a> after reaching each of the following Loyalty Point thresholds: 50,000, 90,000, 165,000, and 240,000 Loyalty Points. The annual fee is increasing from $595 to $695 beginning August 23, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The authorized user fee is staying the same: $175 for the first three authorized users, then $175 each.<\/p>\n<p>In other words: if you like the new and improved benefits, you want to receive the Grubhub benefit for close to a year, and you want to take advantage of a lower first-year annual fee, you should apply for the card before <strong>August 23, 2026<\/strong>. That can easily offset the vast majority of the card's annual fee, and the card will let you enjoy <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/admirals-club-access\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Admirals Club access<\/a> throughout your travels.<\/p>\n<p>The $100 credit on in-flight and Admirals Club purchases is also nice, although I can't say that I frequently pay for anything while flying or in a lounge, so it's hard to imagine how useful that would be.<\/p>\n<p>Avis President's Club normally requires 20 rentals or $6,000 in annual spending and comes with a variety of benefits, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50% bonus points on rentals.<\/li>\n<li>Free two-car class upgrade when reserving a midsize or above (subject to availability, excludes large SUVs and Signature Fleet).<\/li>\n<li>Guaranteed car up to a full-size with a confirmed 24-hour advanced reservation.<\/li>\n<li>Dedicated support phone number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The only other cards open to new applicants that offer complimentary Avis President's Club are the <a data-ccid=\"4048196\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/united-mileageplus\/united-club-infinite-card\/\">United Club\u2120 Card<\/a> and <a data-ccid=\"4\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/united-mileageplus\/united-club-business-card\/\">United Club\u2120 Business Card<\/a>, so this is a great addition to the card.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"The_mediocre_aspects_of_the_card_refresh\">The mediocre aspects of the card refresh<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The other benefits \u2014 extra Lyft credits, higher earnings on AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars, and more bonus Loyalty Points \u2014 are helpful for some travelers but not to others. If you never book hotels or cars through AAdvantage and you don't earn 165,000 Loyalty Points each year, you won't really notice these changes.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, there are only 50 Omni Hotels throughout the U.S. and Canada, and even with a handful of new hotels in the pipeline, there aren't a ton of properties to choose from. If you've never stayed at an Omni Hotel and you don't plan to, holding Champion status, however lucrative, isn't very meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>That said, it's relatively rare to get complimentary hotel elite status through an airline credit card. Champion status normally requires $4,000 Tier Dollars, and comes with the following perks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Earn 10 Omni Credits per room night (members earn 5)<\/li>\n<li>Free upgrade by one room type level (as available)<\/li>\n<li>Check-in as early as 1 p.m. (as available)<\/li>\n<li>Check-out as late as 3 p.m. (as available)<\/li>\n<li>Daily free bottled water<\/li>\n<li>Daily beverage delivered in the morning<\/li>\n<li>Four items pressed or four shoeshines for free<\/li>\n<li>Local market amenity upon arrival<\/li>\n<li>Guaranteed room availability with 24 hours prior notice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I'm generally against cardholder benefits that you have to work to earn, as it's far too easy to fall short of capturing that extra value.<\/p>\n<p>You won't earn your Omni Free Night Reward until you spend at least two consecutive nights at an Omni Hotel, so you'd essentially need to commit to two Omni vacations each year \u2014 one to earn the reward and one to use the reward.<\/p>\n<p>The Grubhub credit, although less valuable, would likely be easier for most people to maximize. It's hard not to bristle at a card refresh that includes a $100 bump in annual fees, but it seems as though the added benefits more than make up for the extra expense.<\/p>\n<p>If you're interested in applying for the card, note that you can take advantage of the current annual fee and enjoy the Grubhub credit through August 31, 2027, if you are approved before August 23, 2026.
