On August 3, Citi and American Airlines announced a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/american-aadvantage\/citi-aadvantage-executive-card-2026-refresh\/\" rel=\"noopener\">refresh of the Citi<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> \/ AAdvantage<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Executive World Elite Mastercard<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> and an increase in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/american-aadvantage\/admirals-club-membership-fee-increase\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Admirals Club<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> membership fees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And on August 6, American released its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com\/web\/i18n\/aadvantage-program\/aadvantage-program-updates.html\" rel=\"noopener\">2026 mid-year AAdvantage<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> update<\/a>. The most notable news was that <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/american-aadvantage\/elite-status-upgrades-premium-economy\/\" rel=\"noopener\">elite members will no longer get business class upgrades<\/a> on domestic routes served by aircraft with three cabins (economy, premium economy, and business).<\/p>\n<p>However, there are a few more things from the mid-year update to run through, although the majority of them are frustratingly vague. Here's what to know.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"2026_Mid-Year_AAdvantage_Update\">2026 Mid-Year AAdvantage Update<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>American Airlines has released a variety of mid-year AAdvantage updates, but most of them don't include enough details to form an opinion on. And a lot of these &#8220;new&#8221; updates we already knew about.<\/p>\n<p>Here's a quick overview of changes to the AAdvantage program in the coming months:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Book flights with cash and miles:\u00a0<\/strong>You'll soon be able to use a combination of cash and miles to book mainland U.S. flights (excluding Alaska and Hawaii). However, it's hard to know whether this will be a good value. Some programs, like Oneworld partner British Airways, offer <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/british-airways-club\/avios-plus-cash\/\" rel=\"noopener\">fantastic redemption rates when using a combination of cash and miles<\/a>. However, most U.S. airlines offer a maximum redemption of 1\u00a2 per mile when selecting this option.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stream FOX One on board:\u00a0<\/strong>When you connect to in-flight Wi-Fi on domestic flights, you'll receive a 24-hour pass to FOX One, up to seven times per year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Free Wi-Fi on more flights:\u00a0<\/strong>Wi-Fi powered by AT&T is available on more domestic flights and select international flights, free for AAdvantage members. We aren't sure exactly what &#8220;more&#8221; means in this context, but American says it offers connectivity on more planes than any other U.S. carrier. That said, this isn't super meaningful until <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/american-aadvantage\/starlink-wifi\/\" rel=\"noopener\">American rolls out Starlink in 2027<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>New gifts for Million Miler members:\u00a0<\/strong>Later this year, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/american-airlines-million-miler\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Million Miler members<\/a> will receive new benefits. Instead of set rewards, you'll be able to choose from a variety of options, including bonus Loyalty Points, a gift of AAdvantage status, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/systemwide-upgrades\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Systemwide Upgrades<\/a>, bonus miles, and more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Loyalty Point rewards:\u00a0<\/strong>In-flight food and beverage coupons are now available for selection when you earn 15,000 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/loyalty-points\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Loyalty Points<\/a>. Until it officially rolls out, we won't know whether this is a lucrative option or simply a way to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/do-american-airlines-miles-expire\/\" rel=\"noopener\">save miles that are about to expire<\/a>. Similarly, the new gifts for Million Miler members might be valuable, but they might not.<\/p>\n<p>It's interesting to see the other updates included here. We found out about the FOX One partnership in June ahead of the World Cup, and we covered that in-flight food and beverage coupons and New York Times subscriptions would be available as <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/airlines\/american-aadvantage\/loyalty-point-rewards-choices\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Loyalty Point reward choices<\/a> back in March. We also found out about the opportunity to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/news\/american-aadvantage\/aa-vacations\/\" rel=\"noopener\">earn up to 11 miles and Loyalty Points per $1 on American Airlines Vacation packages<\/a> in July.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Bottom_Line\">Bottom Line<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although packaged as updates, we already knew about the vast majority of these AAdvantage changes. And for the new updates, we don't really know much. We don't have a timeline on when members will be able to use a combination of cash and miles to book their flight \u2014 or what the value will be. We also don't know what the new Million Miler choices will be.<\/p>\n<p>These updates were likely framed to make the changes to complimentary upgrades feel less jarring.
