Starting September 25, 2026, Wells Fargo cardholders will no longer be able to gift rewards to another Wells Fargo Rewards customer.

Currently, Wells Fargo lets you transfer rewards to another cardholder, making it easy for spouses, family members, or even friends to pool their points. But in just a few weeks, this feature will disappear.

If you have Wells Fargo Rewards you want to share with someone else, here's what you need to know about the upcoming change — and why you'll want to act before September 25.

Wells Fargo Is Ending Points Transfers Between Cardholders

For a bit longer, Wells Fargo Rewards members can gift their rewards to another Wells Fargo customer with an eligible rewards account. The two cardholders don't need to be related, live at the same address, or even share a household.

This feature makes Wells Fargo unusually flexible since the other major transferable rewards programs either don't allow points sharing or place significant restrictions on it.

Chase lets you move Ultimate Rewards points to one other member of your household, while Citi eliminated person-to-person ThankYou® Points sharing earlier this year. American Express and Capital One don't offer a comparable way to freely transfer rewards between cardholders.

Wells Fargo's version is much simpler: If another person has an eligible Wells Fargo Rewards account, you can gift rewards directly to them.

But that's all coming to an end starting on September 25. After that date, Wells Fargo Rewards will no longer allow cardholders to gift rewards to another customer.

Related: Wells Fargo Autograph® Card Review: 3X Points on Travel, Gas Stations, Restaurants, and More

You Can Still Move Rewards Between Your Own Wells Fargo Cards

Thankfully, Wells Fargo isn't eliminating the ability to move rewards between your own eligible accounts. The bank is changing how it displays rewards from multiple cards, so each eligible card can have its own rewards balance rather than automatically pooling everything into one combined balance. However, you'll still be able to manually transfer rewards between eligible Wells Fargo accounts that belong to you.

So, you can still combine rewards across your own Wells Fargo cards. You just won't be able to send them to another cardholder.

Related: Wells Fargo Travel Portal Guide: How It Works and When To Use It

Automatic Rewards Redemptions Are Ending, Too

Unfortunately, there's a little more bad news. Wells Fargo is also ending automatic rewards redemptions starting September 25.

Currently, cardholders can set up automatic redemptions once their rewards balance reaches a specified amount or on a scheduled date. Once the change takes effect, you'll need to redeem your rewards manually.

For most points and miles enthusiasts, this probably isn't as significant as losing the ability to gift rewards to other cardholders. Still, if you currently rely on automatic redemptions, it's good to know that your existing settings won't continue after September 25.

Bottom Line

Wells Fargo has offered something increasingly rare among transferable rewards programs: the ability to share rewards with another cardholder. But there's not much time left to take advantage of it.

After September 25, you'll still be able to move rewards between your own eligible Wells Fargo cards, but transfers to another person's rewards account will no longer be possible.

So, if you and a spouse, family member, or friend have Wells Fargo Rewards you've been planning to combine, don't wait until you have a redemption in mind.
