There's a $495 annual fee, a complicated rewards redemption structure with competing paths, a supplemental rewards currency that expires and has numerous hoops to jump through, and a points accelerator you have to manually trigger five separate times a year to fully use.

I don't mind any of that. If the math works out, I'll jump through all the hoops necessary for the maximum returns, because Bilt Points are highly valuable. In recent redemptions, AwardWallet users have redeemed Bilt Points for 2.14¢ per point.

With Bilt's refreshed card lineup, I decided to give the new Palladium Card a shot — although it was mainly to earn the welcome bonus. But what started as a short-term experiment has turned into a card I plan to keep in my wallet long-term.

How I Use Bilt Cash

One of the Palladium Card‘s biggest quirks is that it earns two rewards currencies: Bilt Points and Bilt Cash. While Bilt Points can be transferred to travel partners, Bilt Cash is used to unlock additional rewards and benefits.

I chose the Flexible Bilt Cash option, which earns 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spending on top of the card's base points earning. Up to $100 of Bilt Cash earned rolls over to the next year, and anything above that disappears, meaning I need to use it or lose most of it.

Bilt Cash isn't a balance to build up. I treat it like a monthly allowance, which can be the difference between the Palladium Card being worth its cost and being an expensive mistake.

I use mine two ways. The first is unlocking up to 1X points on my mortgage payment, which is why I chose the Flexible Bilt Cash path instead of the housing-only tiers. The second is the monthly credits I regularly use: Walgreens, Grubhub, and Lyft. All three are things I'd be paying for anyway, so I treat this like $360 of value back in my pocket.

There's also plenty more on the full Bilt Cash redemption menu if you want to see everything that's available. Many options depend on where you live and what's available.

Related: Bilt Palladium Card Review: A Unique High-End Credit Card With Solid Benefits

I've Maxed Out All Five Points Accelerators

My favorite feature is the points accelerator option. You can redeem $200 in Bilt Cash to earn an extra 1X bonus point per $1 spent on your next $5,000 in everyday spending. You can do this up to five times per year.

Max all five of these, and you're getting an effective 3X return on up to $25,000 in spending. For non-bonused purchases, that's better than most premium cards and an excellent return on non-bonused spending.

I used all five easily. Spending $5,000 returns $200 in Bilt Cash, so it's easy to have enough to activate another accelerator once you finish one. This works for me since my mortgage payment isn't that high. I need roughly $26 per month in Bilt Cash to cover that feature, so not too much extra spending is needed to keep the accelerator train moving.

Rent Day Is the Best Day of the Month

Rent Day lands on the first of every month, and it's available to all Bilt Members. The draw is the rotating transfer bonuses, which can meaningfully change what a redemption costs if you time it right.

I plan around it. Purchases that can wait get pushed to the first, and it's fairly easy for me to spend the $500 needed to max out the Rent Day bonus each month. I like to save bills and expenses that won't earn bonuses and knock them all out in one sitting. I effectively earn 4X points on that spending.

Related: 19 Points and Miles Deals Ending Soon: Transfer Bonuses, Buy Points Offers, and Award Discounts

Transfer Bonuses Unlocked a Dream Trip

Bilt typically runs a transfer bonus on Rent Day, and I jumped on it a few months ago when it had a bonus to Japan Airlines. I've wanted to go to Japan for several years. Even though I'd be locking my points into a three-year expiration window once I transferred them, I knew this was as good of a deal as I'd get and was confident I could make the trip happen.

On the day, I used Bilt Cash to bump my Bilt elite status from Gold to Platinum, since higher tiers get better bonus terms. Then I moved all my points to Japan Airlines with a 100% bonus and booked three business-class seats to Tokyo for my family a few months later.

That booking alone justifies several years of annual fees in my mind, and it's the best example of why I'm willing to jump through as many hoops as needed to score an amazing redemption.

Hyatt is my other favorite Bilt transfer partner. Although hotel transfers are usually a bad idea, World of Hyatt is a notable exception. Bilt is one of only two programs that partners with them. However, Bilt transfers to Hyatt will drop from 1:1 to 4:3 starting January 1, 2027, making this partnership a little less valuable.

Bilt has more than 20 transfer partners, and the value can vary enormously between them. JAL and Hyatt fit my travel needs and delivered outstanding value. Your needs might be different, so think about whether Bilt's partners work for you before deciding on picking up the card.

It's My Default Card for Everything Else

Between the base earning and a live accelerator, this card is my go-to for anything that doesn't have a better bonus category.

A couple of things to know before you do the same: Bilt has some fairly aggressive earning restrictions. Gift cards from many retailers won't earn points or are outright blocked from completing transactions, and tax payments don't work either. If you were planning to run a quarterly estimated payment through this card, check the earning restrictions first.

What I Don't Love

Although I love jumping through hoops when they are worth it, I don't think they're all well designed on this card.

For example, the $400 hotel credit is awkward to use. It arrives as two separate $200 semi-annual credits, only works on bookings through the Bilt Travel Portal, and each booking has to be at least two nights.

I do use it, though. I've come to think of it as a Swiss Army knife: not the tool I'd choose first, but useful when I need it or don't have better options. The credit fits those well enough that I've never left one on the table.

The travel portal could also be better. Although you'll earn up to 4X on hotels and up to 3X on flights, those rates apply only to portal bookings. You'll want to compare prices against booking direct before you commit to booking through the portal.

And Bilt Cash expiring every year is designed for breakage, not a feature. The $100 rollover doesn't fix it. It just means the system punishes anyone who isn't paying attention, as many won't be able or willing to put in the work to maximize it.

To make things worse, many redemption options aren't available where I live, or if they are, they're so limited that it's never worth it. So as the year ends, I'll have to pay close attention to my Bilt Cash balance. But I never met a challenge I didn't like.

Bottom Line

The Palladium Card isn't for everyone. It rewards people willing to work every part of the system — Bilt Cash, the accelerators, Rent Day timing, transfer bonuses, etc. I'm that person. My trip to Japan justifies all the work I put into getting the most from this card.

If you'd rather have a card that does its job without a monthly checklist, this isn't it. But if you don't mind the hoops, few cards reward the effort quite like the Palladium Card does.

Related: Top Credit Card Offers for October 2026 — 23 Offers Worth Over $1,500!

Page Contents

How I Use Bilt Cash

I've Maxed Out All Five Points Accelerators

Rent Day Is the Best Day of the Month

Transfer Bonuses Unlocked a Dream Trip

It's My Default Card for Everything Else

What I Don't Love

Bottom Line

The Bilt Palladium Card asks a lot: a $495 fee, a rewards structure with competing paths, and a currency that expires if you’re not paying attention.
