Today, September 16, 2026<\/strong>, Chase announced<\/a> a new “Invest Your Points” feature available to cardholders of Chase Ultimate Rewards-earning credit cards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You can now redeem your points for cash to invest in an eligible J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing account, or you can opt to work with a J.P. Morgan advisor to invest in a taxable investment account.<\/p>\n

This is certainly an interesting proposition: Earn points on your everyday purchases and then invest those points in your rainy day fund. However, you'll likely get a lot more value by redeeming points for travel than for investments.<\/p>\n

Here's what you need to know about Chase's new investment redemption method.<\/p>\n

Invest Your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points<\/span><\/h2>\n

If you hold a credit card that earns Ultimate Rewards<\/a>, including cards in the Sapphire, Freedom, and Ink families, you should see a new redemption method in your portal. Under “Convert to cash,” there are now three options: Cash back, Pay Yourself Back<\/a>, and invest your points:<\/p>\n

When you click “Invest your points,” you'll see step-by-step instructions on how to “use points to invest in your future.”<\/p>\n

First, you'll need to open an eligible J.P. Morgan investment account, if you don't already have one. Eligible accounts include general investment, UTMA, and trust accounts. Note that traditional and Roth IRA accounts are not eligible to invest with points.<\/p>\n

Then, return to Ultimate Rewards to redeem your points. Your points will be deposited as cash into your investment account and will be available to invest within three business days. Once the cash is in your account, you can choose how to invest based on your goals and risk tolerance.<\/p>\n

Since you're redeeming for cash back, you'll get a value of 1\u00a2 apiece from your Ultimate Rewards. In other words, my current 262,861-point balance is worth $2,628.61 that I could invest.<\/p>\n

Limited-time bonus<\/span><\/h3>\n

On the page to open your investing account, you'll see several mentions of the opportunity to earn up to $1,000 when you open an account. However, there's a big catch on that bonus.<\/p>\n

Yes, until October 21, 2026, you can earn up to $1,000 by opening an eligible account, funding it, and maintaining a balance for 90 days from opening. However, to earn the maximum bonus, you'll need to fund at least $250,000. That likely isn't attainable for most people.<\/p>\n

Plus, there's a bigger issue: Chase does not consider Ultimate Rewards points new money, so you can't use them to earn the cash bonus. While you can redeem your points for investments, you'll also need to invest additional cash to take advantage of this offer.<\/p>\n

Bottom Line<\/span><\/h2>\n

It's always great when there are more ways to use your points, but I think I'll pass on investing my point balance, at least for now. Considering that AwardWallet users typically redeem Ultimate Rewards points for 2.07\u00a2 apiece, my current point balance is worth over $5,000 toward travel.<\/p>\n

To me, it doesn't make sense to redeem those points for just $2,628 worth of investments, even if those investments will grow over time. With that said, if you normally redeem points for cash back, investing your points could make a lot of sense.<\/p>\n
