The terms and conditions for popular cards like the <a data-ccid=\"4048132\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/alaska-atmos-rewards\/alaska-airlines-credit-card\/\">Atmos\u2122 Rewards Ascent Visa Signature<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> card<\/a> have been updated with new language stating that the card will not be available to you if you <em>currently have<\/em> or <em>have had<\/em> the card in the preceding 24-month period.<\/p>\n<p><img data-aspectratio=\"600\/76\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15790 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Bank-of-America-Logo.png\" alt=\"bank of america logo\" width=\"600\" height=\"76\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Bank-of-America-Logo.png 1640w, https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Bank-of-America-Logo-300x38.png 300w, https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Bank-of-America-Logo-1024x130.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Overview_of_the_Current_Rules\">Overview of the Current Rules<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although the new rule is simple to understand\u2014you can't get a card if you had the same card in the last two years\u2014prospective Bank of America applicants will also need to keep in mind the <a href=\"\/credit-cards\/bank-america-234-policy\/\">existing 2\/3\/4 rule<\/a>\u00a0which limits you to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two new cards per rolling 2-month period<\/li>\n<li>Three new cards per rolling 12-month period<\/li>\n<li>Four new cards per rolling 24-month period<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fortunately, unlike <a href=\"\/credit-cards\/chase-5-24-rule\/\">Chase's 5\/24 policy<\/a>, the 2\/3\/4 rule applies only to Bank of America-issued cards. In other words, getting three Amex or Citi cards won't mean you have to wait 12 months to apply for a Bank of America card.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Our_Take\">Our Take<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This new rule comes as no surprise; almost every card issuer is adding more restrictions these days. On the positive side, a 24-month waiting period still leaves room for folks that had a card in the past to open a new account eventually. There are plenty of legitimate reasons why someone might abandon a card and later decide it's a good value.
