IHG is one of Chase\u2019s least valuable transfer partners. Even with this elevated bonus, you're likely better off using your Ultimate Rewards elsewhere. But all points don't have the same value. While AwardWallet users have redeemed Chase Ultimate Rewards points for an average of 2.04\u00a2 per point, AwardWallet users have only been able to <a href=\"\/point-mile-values\/ihg\">redeem IHG points for 0.69\u00a2 per point<\/a> in recent redemptions.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, if you were to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to IHG, you'd effectively cut the value of your points by almost two-thirds. This makes transfers to IHG a poor value in most scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>Even a 100% transfer bonus doesn't completely close the gap. Doubling IHG's average redemption value of 0.69\u00a2 per point effectively gets you to about 1.38\u00a2 in value per Chase point transferred. That's a significant improvement over the standard transfer ratio, but it's still below the average value AwardWallet users get from Chase Ultimate Rewards points.<\/p>\n<p>Unless you have a specific high-value IHG redemption in mind, you'll generally get better value by transferring your Chase points to one of Chase's more rewarding airline or hotel partners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/chase-rewards-cards\/\" rel=\"noopener\">All of the Credit Cards that Earn Chase Ultimate Rewards Points<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Don8217t_forget_about_the_Chase_Travel_portal\">Don't forget about the Chase Travel portal<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>While 2.04\u00a2 and 0.69\u00a2 per point are our baseline values for these currencies, you may value them differently. And that's okay. But that still doesn't necessarily make this transfer bonus a good deal.<\/p>\n<p>Personal valuations aside, Ultimate Rewards cardholders can redeem points through <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/chase-travel-portal\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Chase Travel<\/a> for up to 2\u00a2 per point, depending on which Chase card they hold.<\/p>\n<p>Even with a 100% transfer bonus, you'd need to redeem your IHG points for at least 1\u00a2 each to match that value, since every 1 Chase point becomes 2 IHG points. While that's certainly more achievable than under the standard transfer ratio, it still requires above-average IHG redemptions.<\/p>\n<p>In short, whether it's better to transfer points or book through Chase Travel depends on both your Chase card and the value you'll get from your planned IHG redemption.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Walking_through_an_example\">Walking through an example<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Let's use a booking at the Kimpton Shinjuku Tokyo \u2014 one of our favorite <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/ihg-one-rewards\/best-luxury-ihg-redemptions\/\" rel=\"noopener\">IHG luxury redemptions<\/a> \u2014 to demonstrate this point.<\/p>\n<p>For a two-night award stay in January 2027, the award price for a base room is 64,000 IHG points per night, or 128,000 IHG points total. Instead, the lowest-priced option was a higher-category King Essential, Walk-In Shower room, which cost 69,805 Ultimate Rewards points with the <a data-ccid=\"2061159\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/chase-sapphire-preferred\/\">Chase Sapphire Preferred<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Card<\/a> (<a data-ccid=\"2061159\" href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/fs-bin\/click?id=g3lR0xvjyAU&offerid=1753725.10005147&type=3&subid=01f8d03c0b2cd68d40bc1eb96af251c46&subid=639396\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rates & Fees<\/a>). Eligible Point Boost bookings can offer up to 2\u00a2 per point through the Chase Travel\u2120 Portal. Depending on the room type and rate available through Chase Travel, you may be able to book your stay for fewer Ultimate Rewards points than transferring them to IHG.<\/p>\n<p>But the primary takeaway is this: Don't transfer your points until you've compared both options.<\/p>\n<p>A 100% transfer bonus is compelling, but it doesn't automatically make transferring your Ultimate Rewards points to IHG the best value. Even solid points redemptions may not outperform the value you\u2019d get by booking through the Chase Travel Portal \u2014 especially if you hold the <a data-ccid=\"4048084\" href=\"https:\/\/awardwallet.com\/credit-cards\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/sapphire-reserve\/\">Sapphire Reserve<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What's a better alternative to building your stash of IHG points? You\u2019re far better off picking up a co-branded <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/ihg-one-rewards\/ihg-credit-cards\/\" rel=\"noopener\">IHG credit card<\/a> with a big welcome bonus
