Citi is one of those and offers some pretty decent mid-tier travel cards for consumers. However, it also used to provide its own version of a premium travel credit card. Though it's no longer open to new applicants, there are still plenty of people who hold the Citi Prestige<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Card. Let's take a look at the earning rates and benefits of this card for those who are lucky enough to have one.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Citi_Prestige_CardAnnual_Fee\">Citi Prestige Card\u00a0Annual Fee<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As a premium travel credit card, the Prestige Card incurs a pretty hefty annual fee of $495. However, this is lower than the annual fees of competitors such as the <a data-ccid=\"4028089\" href=\"\/blog\/link\/CR-ThePlatinumCardfromAmericanExpress\" rel=\"noopener nofollow sponsored\">American Express Platinum Card<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> and <a data-ccid=\"4048084\" href=\"\/blog\/link\/ChaseSapphireReserve\" rel=\"noopener nofollow sponsored\">Chase Sapphire Reserve<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a>. This includes an industry-leading transfer ratio of 1:2 to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/hotels\/choice-privileges\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Choice Privileges<\/a> (meaning one ThankYou<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Point becomes two Choice points). Points earned by other competitors like <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/amex-membership-rewards\/\" rel=\"noopener\">American Express Membership Rewards<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/capital-one-rewards\/capital-one-transfer-partners\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Capital One miles<\/a> transfer at a 1:1 ratio.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from superior transfer ratios, the Prestige Card also enjoys a very generous earning structure:<\/p>\n<ul>\r\n<li>5X points on air travel, travel agencies, and at restaurants<\/li>\r\n<li>3X points at hotels and on cruise line purchases<\/li>\r\n<li>1X point per dollar on all other purchases<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those who hold the Prestige Card are likely already aware of how valuable its earning rates can be. While ThankYou<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Points may be less popular than other flexible point currencies, they're worth a lot. In <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/point-mile-values\" rel=\"noopener\">recent AwardWallet user redemptions<\/a>, ThankYou<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Points were redeemed at an average rate of 2.3\u00a2 each. Compare that to Amex points (1.99\u00a2), <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Chase Ultimate Rewards<\/a> (2.01\u00a2), and Capital One (2.04\u00a2).<\/p>\n<p>It's also impossible to find any other cards with an unlimited 5x earn on restaurants or flights. Two American Express cards come close to these earnings. The <a data-ccid=\"4028085\" href=\"\/blog\/link\/CR-AmericanExpressGoldCard\" rel=\"noopener nofollow sponsored\">American Express<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Gold Card<\/a> has excellent restaurant rewards (Earn 4X points at restaurants worldwide (on up to $50,000 per year, then 1X)), and the <a data-ccid=\"4028089\" href=\"\/blog\/link\/CR-ThePlatinumCardfromAmericanExpress\" rel=\"noopener nofollow sponsored\">Platinum Card<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/a> earns 5X points on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year) and 5X points on prepaid hotels (including Fine Hotels + Resorts<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and The Hotel Collection) booked through American Express Travel<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>However, the 5x per $1 spent via the Prestige Card is uncapped, which is excellent for big spenders. It also accounts for travel agencies, which means you can book flights with online travel agencies (OTAs) like Expedia without sacrificing earnings.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Citi_Prestige_Card_Benefits\">Citi Prestige Card Benefits<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Because it's a premium travel credit card, the Prestige Card does more than just offer the ability to earn points.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Statement_credits\">Statement credits<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Annual travel credit<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>TheCiti Prestige Card offers <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/citi-thankyou-rewards\/citi-prestige-travel-credit\/\" rel=\"noopener\">up to $250 in annual statement credits good for travel purchases<\/a>. Like the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/chase-ultimate-rewards\/sapphire-reserve-travel-credit\/\" rel=\"noopener\">travel credit offered by the Sapphire Reserve<\/a>, this travel credit is broad and easy to use. Simply charge travel purchases to your card and the credit will be automatically applied.<\/p>\n<h4>Citigold banking credit<\/h4>\n<p>Only available to those with a Citigold banking relationship, this credit gives you a $145 statement credit each year simply for maintaining the relationship. Note that you'll need to maintain a combined balance of $200,000 per month to qualify for Citigold banking.<\/p>\n<h4>Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit<\/h4>\n<p>Like many other travel credit cards, the Prestige Card offers up to $100 every four years towards either <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/travel\/tsa-precheck\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Entry or TSA PreCheck<\/a>. Simply pay for your application fee with the card to receive a statement credit offsetting the cost.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Fourth_night_free\">Fourth night free<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Prestige Card previously offered amazing value with its fourth-night-free benefit. In the past, these were uncapped, had the ability to earn points, and included the taxes and fees you'd paid.<\/p>\n<p>These days, cardholders are entitled to just two uses of the fourth night free per year. They're also not able to receive elite night credit or benefits on these bookings (as hotels generally don't provide elite status perks when you book through a portal), nor does the fourth night free include taxes or fees. However, there's still value to be had. Do that twice a year and you've recouped the card's annual fee just from this benefit.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Airport_lounge_access\">Airport lounge access<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Prestige Card offers a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/travel\/priority-pass-lounges-guide\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Priority Pass Select membership<\/a>, which allows users to gain airport lounge access at more than 1,400 locations worldwide. The membership provided by the Prestige Card is one of the most generous around: Enrolled members can bring up to two guests with them to the lounge. Authorized users also receive their own Priority Pass membership.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the Priority Pass Select membership offered by the Prestige Card includes access to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/travel\/priority-pass-benefits\/\" rel=\"noopener\">non-lounge experiences (such as spas and restaurants)<\/a>, which is rather unique these days after other cards have removed this benefit.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Alternatives_to_the_Citi_Prestige_Card\">Alternatives to the Citi Prestige Card<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Prestige Card is a great card if you've already got it. Unfortunately, since it's not open to new applicants or <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/credit-cards\/citi-product-change-rules\/\" rel=\"noopener\">product changes from another Citi credit card<\/a>, those who are looking for similar benefits will need to search elsewhere.
