The American Airlines AAdvantage\u00ae<\/sup> elite status<\/a> qualification year runs through the end of February. If you\u2019re coming up short \u2014 and those perks matter to you \u2014 keep might want to keep an eye out. AA is currently sending out targeted offers that let you buy your way to the next elite tier.<\/p>\n

While these offers are certainly overpriced, they may make sense if you can't qualify via any other method. Here's how to check if you're targeted and some data points on the cost of buying elite status.<\/p>\n

How To Check Your American Airlines Status Boost Offer<\/span><\/h2>\n

Each year, American Airlines emails AAdvantage members — at least those who haven't already hit top-tier Executive Platinum elite status — with an offer to buy a higher tier of elite status. To see your current offer, visit the offer landing page<\/a> and log in.<\/p>\n

Once you log in, you'll see whether an AAdvantage elite status buy-up offer is available. You can purchase status with cash or AAdvantage miles (worth 1 cent apiece). And the purchased status is valid through March 31, 2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

AAdvantage members can generally buy up to the elite status either at or above the one they qualified for during the 2025-2026 elite status qualification period. However, some travelers are seeing offers for the next two tiers.<\/p>\n

The tiers offered — and the amounts charged — are based on the number of AAdvantage Loyalty Points<\/a> earned up until this point in the status qualification year. If you earn more Loyalty Points between now and the end of February, your offer might fluctuate. But if one thing is for sure, these offers are expensive.<\/p>\n

Example AAdvantage Elite Status Buy-Up Offers<\/span><\/h2>\n

American Airlines' buy-up offers are different for each member, and it's possible that some members will not receive anything at all. Here are some examples of offers received by the AwardWallet team.<\/p>\n

Buy-up to Executive Platinum for $2,249 or 225k miles<\/span><\/h3>\n

One of the AwardWallet team members who currently has Platinum Pro status is sitting at 185,000 Loyalty Points — enough to already requalify for Platinum Pro status. However, that's still about 15,000 Loyalty Points short of qualifying for top-tier Executive Platinum. American Airlines is offering a status buy-up for a whopping $2,249 or 225,000 AAdvantage miles.<\/p>\n

Buy-up to Platinum Pro for $799 or 80k miles<\/span><\/h3>\n

Another data point: a traveler who currently has Platinum Pro status is sitting at 120,913 Loyalty Points, so just 4,087 away from re-qualifying. American Airlines is offering a status buy-up for $799 or 80,000 miles.<\/p>\n

However, this member has already completed co-branded card spending to reach this threshold before the end of the qualification year. They're just waiting for their statement to post.<\/p>\n

Even if they hadn't, you can earn a bundle of Loyalty Points by leveraging the AAdvantage eShopping portal<\/a>. It'd be much cheaper to make a few purchases to get over the threshold rather than shell out nearly $800.<\/p>\n
