Great customer service. By working with their partners you can earn points at a great rate, particularly if you have silver or gold status. Rewards are less points than other airlines, although the UK government still wants tax on reward bookings. You have to search around or book in advance for rewards on some routes, but this is the same for all airlines really. On board service is amongst the best in class and certainly knocks all those cash-strapped US airlines into a cocked hat.

I've flown them long-haul first class, and intra-Africa and ant inter-South Africa in club (business) numerous times.

South African flight staff are great. International flight crews have been pretty good, but do tend to disappear after the main service in first. However, if you ring the call button or go to the galley, all requests are met with a smile, not a scowl.

When booking an award 9 months out, I wanted to fly IN to a certain city, and OUT of a certain city go get home. The man at the BA EC phone desk was patient and delivered superior customer service, a real stand out, and I'm a pretty demanding person (not rude, but I expect agents to know how to do their jobs, and they oftentimes don't; this guy was just awesome).

Charge fuel surtax on point redemtion so you are looking at about $700 so you are loosing 30-40% of the point value. If the online service makes an error (i.e. disperses your children throughout the airplane for some reason) you have no hope of getting customer service to fix the problem prior to arrival at check-in. There is a total disconnect between on-line services and customer service. Customer service is a nightmare. Compared to their competition in the Middle East to Europe to North America market there seats available for redemtion is lacking.
Have mislaid my luggage on three of my last six flights - at least they tell you your luggage isn't going to make it before you land.

Never had any issues in over 17 years of flying with BA. I find their staff attentive, well mannered and friendly and when acquaintainces of mine had had issues (ie lost luggage) the problem has been solved within a matter of days, with some form of compensation offered also. The only down side is that some of the older planes have still yet to be fitted with updated business class seats.

Yes, they have the highest fees but they also tend to have the best availability. Works for me, especially with the BA Visa annual 2 for 1 deal. First Class to Israel for $700 is a pretty good deal!

With the new mile accrual rates (100% of distance even in deep discounted economy; 100% bonus for Gold and Silver; 50% of regular tier points in discounted economy) I must admit BAEC has become one of the best FFP programmes in Europe. Thumbs up BA!

Service is okay, and as long as everything goes okay then it's fine.
If there is ANY problem whatsoever then BA and their service falls to pieces. Their customer service stinks BIG TIME ! ~ this I know from experience on several occasions
Earning miles is reasonably straightforward but it seems you need more miles than you would with any other airline.

*update*
On a recent trip to South Africa, BA lost my luggage for 6 days and when it finally turned up, half my belongings had been stolen. (and this was before T5 !!!)
BA refused to pay because I had no receipts for my clothes and missing belongings.
So I now fly any other airline I can use

flight attendents ok, gate staff very indifferent. I find that there usually is no boarding call, just the gate staff opening the door and assuming people are going to start boarding the plane, then sitting on the plane, being told every fifteen minutes that it'll be another 15 minutes before takeoff, for THREE hours, then getting bused to another plane on the other side of the airport. Flight attendants were eh. The employees at the BA counter at the airport were rude to me when he tried to find out why the plane was late. Maybe I should give them a chance?
