My opinion is that Diners gets a bum rap.

I am a big fan of Amex Rewards, Amex Starwood and Diners Cards with points in each. Diners definitely has a place in my portfolio of rewards programs.

The first advantage of Diners is that not every one of my suppliers and merchants takes Amex brand card.

I like the ability to shop and pay for rooms or air with Diners and then exchange points later. Can't do that with Amex.

The value for rooms with Diners is usually not as good as Starwood. But, the exchange rate of points for $ beats Amex in most cases for booking hotels. Plus, you can book rooms with any brand.

Exchange rate for air miles with Diners is about equal to Amex, but Amex will do over the phone. Diners is slow to deposit miles to my airline accounts, as is Starwood.

I was a Diners Club member for years, but when they converted it to a MasterCard, I dropped them like a HOT POTATO!! Unless the program has changed in the last 18 months, you pay a high for a "Diners Club Master Card"!! NOT WORTH IT!!
